Responsibilities



Maintains and repairs a variety of biomedical and related equipment under Biomedical Services Supervisor Effectively communicates with all levels of staff in client facilities to perform routine services and minor repairs Performs Quality Assurance and Safety tests Creates the necessary records to document preventative maintenance, quality assurance, safety tests, upgrades and repairs Consistently performs first echelon service with close supervision on most devices under Clinical Engineering responsibility

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Must be physically able to balance, bend, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach, sit, squat, stand, twist, and walk. Must have sensory ability to distinguish hot, cold, range of temperature, surfaces, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and detect/distinguish odors. Must be able to carry or lift up to 50 pounds routinely (50% of the time) and on occasion (5% of the time) up to 100 pounds. Must be able to push or pull over 100 pounds frequently (20% of the time). Must be able to work and follow OSHA guidelines while in a hazardous environment(s) such as electrocution potentials, mechanical energies, bloodborne/airborne pathogens, dust and inclement weather, marked changes in temperature and/or humidity, radiation, fumes/vapors, sharp instruments/tools, hazardous liquids, and operating devices.     Job Summary

    This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

    Under general supervision, the Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) provides a link between technology and patient care in surgical and intensive care units; diagnostic and therapeutic treatment units; clinics; laboratories; and medical equipment distribution areas. The BMET is expected to support a wide variety of medical devices in use at an academic medical center in conjunction with the Clinical Technology & Biomedical Engineering Medical Equipment Management Plan. The BMET is responsible for completing all given assignments within the parameters of the department performance standards.

    Essential Functions

    The essential functions listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification. They are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities. Employees may also perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Associate's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.

    Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
