Responsibilities



Maintains and repairs a variety of biomedical and related equipment under Biomedical Services Supervisor Effectively communicates with all levels of staff in client facilities to perform routine services and minor repairs Performs Quality Assurance and Safety tests Creates the necessary records to document preventative maintenance, quality assurance, safety tests, upgrades and repairs Consistently performs first echelon service with close supervision on most devices under Clinical Engineering responsibility

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent Associate's Degree in Biomedical or Electronics Technology or equivalent education preferred

Experience:

Ability to use a variety of very delicate to heavy duty tools and instruments Ability to recognize color codes Basic computer skills required Strong verbal and written communication skills Active listening skills Good problem solving skills Strong time management skills Ability to think strategically and act tactically Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time Ability to embrace the client relationship to guide decisions and actions Demonstrates good team work

Certification and Licensure:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Must be physically able to balance, bend, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach, sit, squat, stand, twist, and walk. Must have sensory ability to distinguish hot, cold, range of temperature, surfaces, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and detect/distinguish odors. Must be able to carry or lift up to 50 pounds routinely (50% of the time) and on occasion (5% of the time) up to 100 pounds. Must be able to push or pull over 100 pounds frequently (20% of the time). Must be able to work and follow OSHA guidelines while in a hazardous environment(s) such as electrocution potentials, mechanical energies, bloodborne/airborne pathogens, dust and inclement weather, marked changes in temperature and/or humidity, radiation, fumes/vapors, sharp instruments/tools, hazardous liquids, and operating devices. Must be able to hear speech, distinguish sounds, and speak. Must have near vision far vision, depth perception, and be able to distinguish colors.

BL-3 technicians are required to participate in the BIAH Encephalomyelitis Program without health restrictions.

Basic computer skills to create and update standard operating procedures and write deviation reports, and to complete all training as assigned to include general company procedures, area procedures, equipment operation, computer operation, safety, GMP, BPE, and other as needed.

To generate or collect new ideas about workplace and processes.

\t

Performs all Company business in accordance with all regulations (e.g., USDA, OSHA, etc.) and Company policy and procedures. When violations are noted/observed they are to be immediately reported to management. Demonstrated high ethical and professional standards with all business

Requirements\:

• Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Microbiology or other related Science; Or an Associates degree from an accredited institution in Microbiology or other related Science, plus two (2) years of relevant experience; or a High School diploma, plus four (4) years of relevant experience.

• Basic computer skills with Word, Excel and Electronic Management Systems, basic biological equipment knowledge and/or experience (i.e. fermentation, centrifuge, concentration units), basic understanding of biological organisms.

• Ability to read, interpret and conform to batch records, Quality and Safety requirements.

• Ability to operate applicable ERP system.

• Requires basic knowledge of manufacturing function, acquaintance with and general understanding of aspects of the production process and ability to apply this knowledge to situations ordinarily encountered.

Job Summary

This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

Under general supervision, the Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) provides a link between technology and patient care in surgical and intensive care units; diagnostic and therapeutic treatment units; clinics; laboratories; and medical equipment distribution areas. The BMET is expected to support a wide variety of medical devices in use at an academic medical center in conjunction with the Clinical Technology & Biomedical Engineering Medical Equipment Management Plan. The BMET is responsible for completing all given assignments within the parameters of the department performance standards.

Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

+ Complies with Department Technician Orientation & Training Competency Program and actively participates in continuous education and training.

+ Demonstrates acceptance of patients, families, visitors, and co-workers regardless of race, gender, disease process, life style, religious or cultural beliefs, or treatment.

+ Documents all scheduled and unscheduled work performed in the CT&BE inventory and maintenance database.

+ Follows all SH&C/LPCH safety guidelines and infection control policies and procedures for self, patients, visitors, and employees.

+ Handles hospital and department computer workstations, software packages, websites, and files with appropriate care and respects all copyrighted material.

+ Maintains confidentiality with regard to hospital business and HIPAA compliance.

+ Periodically provides weekend, holiday, and off-shift coverage, including call-back emergency coverage. May be required to service equipment on any shift if delays would adversely affect patient care.

+ Primary responsibility is to provide technical support in handling specific logistical activities in defined support areas. The BMET functions as team member within a workgroup.

+ Provides technical bedside support for routine and STAT/emergency trouble calls while consistently demonstrating the ability to assess priorities and escalate more difficult tasks to properly trained staff.

+ Understands and adheres to the Hospital's Conflict of Interest policy.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Associate's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

License/Certification: None required.
