This position includes drawing samples for blood-based tests that leverage genomics and proteomics to uncover individualized insights about tumor biology. Testing for COVID-19 diagnosis will be for persons without symptoms or those who have already recovered from the disease. Virtual training will be provided for all sample types and kits. NOTE: This is a contract position, and payment will be remitted within 30 days of invoice. EQUIPMENT: All kits and draw supplies (needles, tourniquet, tubes etc.) provided. Must have reliable transportation, as samples are collected at the patient's home or place of work. Must provide own gloves, sharps container, and have access to appropriate disposal service. Must have access to smart phone, computer/laptop, and printer to receive orders and print documents. Adequate process for receipt and destruction of PHI as necessary. RESPONSIBILITIES: Contact each patient within 24 hours. Prompt scheduling of appointments (1 to 3 days). Communicate with the office regarding scheduling, patient issues or draw complications. Specimen collection adhering to kit instructions precisely, to ensure accurate testing. Samples packed and shipped same day using FedEx shipping materials provided by company. The Clinical and Translational Research Unit (CTRU) is the leading academic center for Stanford Medicine and provides state of the art ambulatory and laboratory research services for overclinical trials and research projects. The center is a multidisciplinary organizational unit, whose mission is to streamline, accelerate, and promote the translation of basic discoveries into practical solutions that improve human health. The CTRU is seeking two Research Phlebotomists to perform phlebotomy and duties related to the collection of clinical samples and assisting with the operational and administrative requirements to support the clinical trial operations for several research studies. This position will be involved in a range of duties including but not limited to phlebotomy, EKGs, scheduling and organizing participant appointments, reception duties, registering participants, reviewing participant medical orders, taking vital signs and weight and height measurements, assisting with logistics, and serving as liaison with internal and external colleagues. The Research Phlebotomists report to the CTRU Nurse Manager. This position places a heavy emphasis on attention to detail, effective communication and the ability to multitask efficiently and accurately is required. Duties include: Perform basic measurements and tests on patients according to protocol, such as obtaining vital signs and performing phlebotomy and EKG, after appropriate training/certification. Collect study specimens according to protocol. Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments; contact participants with reminders or other requirements. Prepare, distribute, and process questionnaires. Prepare research meals/perform kitchen clean up duties as needed for research participants in the unit. Perform clerical duties in the preparation of regulatory documents. Maintain all forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. File all appropriate correspondence. Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent forms for study participants. Review medical records and/or perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data, as needed. Administer standard study questionnaires and tests, score test measurements and questionnaires, and code data for computer entry. Perform quantitative review of forms, tests, and other measurements for completeness and accuracy. Extract data from source documents for research studies as directed. Collect data and complete case report forms. Prepare, process, and ship specimens/samples accurately under well-defined requirements. Order and maintain equipment and supplies. * - Other duties may also be assigned DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 3-5 years phlebotomy experience. Experience as a phlebotomist, medical assistant or experience in a blood donor setting. Ability to record vital signs and prepare forms for data collection. This position requires working at all three of the ARTS locations, on a rotating schedule throughout the week. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 5\:00am to 1\:30pm. Under the direction of the Administrative Nurse III, the phlebotomist screens patients who present themselves for phlebotomy services to determine the need for any special instructions. The phlebotomist will be responsible for entering and verifying patient demographic data, collect specimens from patients, order lab tests, generate lists, and label specimens for facility analysis. Duties & Responsibilities: * Greet patients and perform Phlebotomy on patients of all ages. * Prepares instruments and/or area according to the specifications of the procedure; maintains and cleans all instruments and/or areas. * Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique. Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks. * Reviews and processes procedure orders; documents and communicates incomplete or invalid procedures. * Screens patient(s) prior to a procedure; explains components of procedures to patient(s) * Conducts procedures; determines the best location of obtaining specimens. * Observes and monitors patient(s) throughout procedure(s); advises of any abnormal indicators. * Collects, prepares, and/or transports specimens for processing. * Order supplies as needed. * Evaluate completeness of specimens/specimen requests. Perform manual computer procedures for test requesting and canceling tests ordered as needed. * Maintains current knowledge of and adheres to all government, industry, or institutional regulatory guidelines. * Performs support duties such as answering phones, assisting with inventory and records management. * Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required: * High school diploma or equivalent. * One (1) year (12 months) of work experience as a phlebotomist within the last five years. * Possession of a current/valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support CPR Certification. Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of special handling of specimens required for most tests performed by the laboratory. * Have experience with infants through adults * Ability to learn aseptic technique as applied to the techniques to assist technicians with patients. * Must possess the skills needed to perform phlebotomy, including micro collection techniques. * Ability to learn age-specific psychosocial needs of patients of all ages as it relates to phlebotomy. * Must be able to access parent cooperation when drawing a child or assess need for special kindness when drawing a compromised adult. * Ability to learn non-verbal cues in communicating/interacting with patients of all ages. This includes exhibiting kindness and caring attitude when working with patients of all ages. * Basic first aid skills, good communication skills, and always exhibit a professional attitude. * Must be able to operate equipment in the work area including mechanical transport devices, computer terminals, centrifuges, telephones and filing systems. * Must possess good organizational skills.
