Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking a Lead Biologist to join our Environmental Services Practice working within our power utility sector in the Northern California region, to provide management on our multi-discipline programs. This position includes leading desktop biological constraints reviews, and working supporting staff in completing reports, quality reviews, permit knowledge as well as maintaining key communications with the client. The position is to be based out of our Sacramento, Roseville, Chico, Redding, Nevada City, Walnut Creek, San Jose or Fresno offices and geographic alignment with other Stantec offices can be considered based on experience. Your Key Responsibilities As a Lead Biologist, you will lead and coordinate biological desktop reviews for public and private projects supporting utility programs. This position is primarily desktop (remote work from home or office). Task duties include: * Providing quality control and maintaining a high standard for safety on biological field reports, biological reports and memos and other desktop reviews produced by junior biological staff and subcontractors. * Identification and support on environmental permitting, on various projects located throughout California, and coordination of biological reports with utility clients and internal Stantec teams. * Supporting multi-disciplinary project/program teams in all phases of the execution and delivery of utility operations and maintenance projects. * Understanding and knowledge of California flora/fauna will be needed, HCPs, permits, as well as understanding of typical construction activities on electric and/or gas and/or vegetation removal projects. * Management of author teams to make sure they are submitting quality deliverables, on-time and on budget. * Supporting project management teams and working on the financials of dynamic projects. Your Capabilities and Credentials * Perform linear facility (i.e., utility, transportation, etc.) environmental work, including at least 3 -5 years of experience performing biological and/or permitting work for California IOUs (or equivalent). * Familiar with leading large desktop review teams. * Strong research, analysis, and reporting abilities. * Strong reviewing skills and QA/QC skills. * Detail-oriented and capable of managing and tracking large amounts of data. * Takes initiative, team-oriented professional with excellent written and communication skills. * Should be familiar with review and analysis of scientific data, maps, and drawings. * Provide support in delivering high quality work products to multi-disciplinary project teams. * Ability to identify new project opportunities and build relationships with clients. * Strong skills as a self-starter, good client forward facing/communication skills. * Understanding of Federal and State agency requirements with special-status species on linear projects. * Must have good driving record and valid driver's license. Preferred: * CPUC experience a plus. Over the last fifteen years, Pristine Seas, National Geographic's flagship ocean conservation program has helped to inspire the protection of 28 of the last wild places in the ocean, encompassing more than 6 million square kilometers of ocean. We are seeking a Coral Reef Ecologist, Research, Pristine Seas to support and scale our approach over the next five years The Coral Reef Ecologist for Pristine Seas conducts high-impact scientific research in furtherance of the Pristine Seas' mission. The candidate will conduct coral reef research on expeditions, support the production of high-quality scientific reports and publications, and provide input to inform decision-makers regarding the necessity of protecting the last wild places in the ocean The Coral Reef Ecologist reports to the VP of Research and will be part of a cohesive, collaborative, and high-performing research team. Data Management and Reporting * Tabulate and analyze collected field data using computer software * Analyze acoustic data using bat call analysis software. * Independently prepare technical reports and agency coordination documents. * Submit project reports to various agencies and entities. * Maintain clear communication with project managers, clients, and subcontractors. Who You Are Qualified candidates should enjoy fieldwork, be able to walk long distances carrying a backpack and be able to lift at least 50 pounds.     Urban Ecologist The Holden Arboretum Full-Time Opportunity: The Urban Ecologist will conduct research at the intersection of basic and applied science concerning plants and their roles within urban environments. It is expected that research will take place primarily in urban landscapes.
