POSITION SUMMARY: Perform any one or all of the routine processes (e.g. dissection, layout, cutting, and vialing) in laboratory, setting according to established procedures and guidelines. Produce high quality tissue products in an efficient manner. Ensure sterile processing and handling of tissue at all times. Perform regular inspection and cleaning of lab equipment to ensure equipment is in good, working order. Monitor equipment maintenance schedule to ensure routine and repair service is performed as needed. Perform data entry tasks. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Process human tissue in an aseptic processing environment (lab) according to standard operating procedures and work instructions using surgical instruments and machinery * Perform any one or all of the routine tissue processes (e.g. dissection, layout, cutting, and vialing), as per required specifications, within expected processing times in order to meet production schedules * Adhere to all policies and practices from the Quality Management System (QMS) based on company standards and regulatory standards for tissue processing * Document results of each process performed, supplies used, etc. to maintain integrity and traceability of donor * Enter relevant data from tissue processing record into company specific database * Monitor, maintain, and clean processing facility and equipment * Support and contribute new ideas to the continuous tissue processing improvement efforts * Monitor tissue processing supplies and notify management when supplies are needed; restock supplies EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: * High School Diploma * Prefer BA/BS in Biology or Chemistry * Minimum 6 months - 1 year in biotech, pharma, medical or clean manufacturing * Prefer knowledge of Good Documentation Practice (GDP), Good Tissue Practice (GTP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and AATB regulations SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: * Excellent oral, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills * Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) * Solid organization skills to support the efficiency of the laboratory operations * Ability to effectively work and interact with all members of the laboratory, tissue processing, research & development, and tissue recovery functions * Must show aptitude to develop appropriate skills needed for the job WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in a controlled laboratory environment. Will have contact/exposure with biohazardous materials, chemicals, and blood and human tissue. Training will be conducted on the handling and safety practices necessary for the use and disposal of hazardous chemicals and potential biohazards. Responsibilities * Works in collaboration with the DFCI Longwood based Health Information Services staff to ensure Quality Control of all aspects of the electronic health record processing. * Will assist Longwood Health Information Services in its efforts to meet and/or exceed patient, physician and customer expectations at satellite location. * Reviews daily visit lists for correct data; checks all electronic charts for any missing documents or recent reports, scans any/all data into the electronic medical record. * Reviews daily listing information against existing records for accuracy and completeness, verifies demographics and makes corrections as necessary. * Sorts, files, and collates, medical records such as admission slips, lab and pathology reports, and clinical notes and scan all into EMR. * Obtains lost or missing records in accordance with established procedures. Communications with hospitals, IT departments, referring physicians, etc. * Manages existing paper charts, including scanning and sending to off-site storage facility. * Reviews and administers all consent forms, including mailing and scanning into charts * Picks up and scans incoming paper data from the front desk and throughout clinic. * Manages both incoming and outgoing faxes. Takes corrective action as needed. * Provides general institute, disease, or program-specific information to callers/patients within the scope of knowledge and authority. * Ensures compliance with DFCI policies and procedures for electronic health information in EPIC. * Adheres to standard operating procedures and compliance requirements. * Enters telephone encounters in EPIC and routes to the appropriate provider, staff member, etc. * May assist with the document preparation for incoming FMLA, Disability, SSA Form requests. * Processes incoming and outgoing mail. * Perform other duties as requested. * Assists in training of new HIS staff * Supports patients with the completion of ROI's etc. * Works closely with the ONN's/providers supporting real time medical documentation needs. * Acts as a liaison with HIS Boston to ensure proper processing of medical records and legal requests. Receives specimens into the LIS by scanning barcodes or manual entry. b. Verifies upon receipt, that all samples are labeled according to laboratory policy. c. Correctly labels tubes with bar coded labels, double checking the name on the barcode label with the name on the specimen and affixing the label in such a way that the original name on the specimen can still be seen. d. Looks up all un-barcoded specimens in the LIS. Prints appropriate labels if ordered or contacts appropriate floor if no orders have been entered. e. Accurately and completely enters all tests into the LIS from downtime and outpatient requisitions. f. Documents in the LIS any specimen or test cancellations and contacts the appropriate physician or location. 2. Properly prepares specimens according to specific Reference Laboratory requirements, using all available reference books or calling the specific lab for requirements. a. Centrifuges and separates specimens to be sent out observing any special test requirements. b. Transmits a temperature-specific site batch report to the appropriate reference lab and enters the number and type of the specimen(s) sent. c. Enters the name of the test and order code into the LIS whenever ordering a miscellaneous test send out (MTSO) d. Submits cpt code(s) and cost for MTSO tests to the Specimen Processing Supervisor for billing. 3. Maintains work area - cleans bench, restocks supplies, notifies Supervisor of low stock. a. Performs daily cleaning of work area. b. Maintains appropriate supplies for work being performed. c. Assures that supplies are sufficient for ongoing testing. Notifies Supervisor where not. 4.
