The Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama, is a private, four-year liberal arts institution affiliated with the United States Methodist Church that aims to educate students both intellectually and ethically. The school provides more than 80 student organizations on campus. Whether you choose Greek life honoraries, special interests groups or publications, it's easy to get involved. Admissions do not require a religious background, only that students submit a high school or prior college transcript, ACT or SAT scores and a personal statement. A distinctive component of the Birmingham experience is the Exploration Term, a four-week period in January during which students undertake independent study in one area designed for creative activity. This experiential learning opportunity offers on-and-off-campus projects, independent research, internships and study abroad experiences. Fine and performing arts scholarships are available to eligible students enrolled in respective programs. Other financial aid options include federal grants, loans and work-study programs.
