Richard J. Liekweg is president and chief executive officer of BJC HealthCare, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit, integrated health care delivery organizations with over $6 billion in net revenues and more than 32,000 employees serving the greater St. Louis, southern Illinois and mid-Missouri regions.

BJC is the largest provider of charity care, unreimbursed care and community benefit in Missouri, providing more than $800.8 million in financial assistance, education of health professionals, safety net services and community outreach programs. BJC’s patients have access to the latest advances in medical science and technology through a formal affiliation between BJC and the renowned Washington University School of Medicine, which consistently ranks among the top medical schools in the country. Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital rank among the most highly regarded teaching hospitals in the nation. BJC’s community and rural hospitals are also regularly recognized for excellence.

Liekweg joined BJC HealthCare in 2009 as president of Barnes-Jewish Hospital and group president for BJC HealthCare. In 2015, Liekweg was promoted to executive vice president and subsequently president of BJC. He was named president and chief executive officer in January 2018.

Before joining BJC, Liekweg served as chief executive officer and associate vice chancellor for the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center from 2003-2009. Liekweg also spent more than 16 years at Duke University Health System, including serving as chief executive officer of Duke’s Durham Regional Hospital.

He currently serves on the boards of several professional and community organizations including Vizient, Washington University, Missouri Hospital Association, Cortex, St. Louis Regional Health Commission, Greater St. Louis, Inc., BioSTL and Forest Park Forever.

Liekweg holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Virginia and master’s degrees in health services administration and business administration, both from the University of Michigan.

As senior vice president and chief financial officer for BJC HealthCare, Nick Barto’s role is to ensure the organization’s current and long-term financial success. He has responsibility for BJC’s strategy, corporate finance, managed care/payer strategies, revenue cycle, supply chain and treasury.

With more than $6 billion in net revenues and more than 32,000 employees in the greater St. Louis, southern Illinois and mid-Missouri regions, BJC is one of the largest health care organizations in the United States and one of the largest employers in Missouri.

Barto came to BJC in 2018 after serving as senior vice president, corporate finance and investments, and chief financial officer for enterprise business lines at Catholic Health Initiatives (the predecessor to CommonSpirit Health) in Englewood, Colo. There he was responsible for the organization’s treasury functions, investor relations, corporate finance, financial and capital planning, and payer strategy operations, as well as Catholic Health Initiatives’ senior living division, clinical engineering, real estate, physical asset services/construction and the organization’s direct investment fund.

Barto has also held senior financial roles at Novant Health, a $4 billion integrated health care system; at McColl Partners, an investment bank that provides services to middle-market companies and private equity firms; at Lehman Brothers in New York and London; and at The Wilkerson Group in New York.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University in Princeton, N.J., and a master’s degree in business administration from Columbia Business School in New York. He has served on the boards and advisory committees of ExceleraRx Corp., Consonance Capital Partners, Centura Health, US Acute Care Solutions and Alta Partners, LLC.

Before coming to BJC, Fox was the global chief information officer with Rockwell Automation in Milwaukee, Wis. He was responsible for information technology strategy and operations at the $6 billion industrial automation company with more than 25,000 employees in 80 countries. He joined Rockwell in 2007 as vice president of information technology operations.

Throughout his career, Fox has held IT leadership positions across a diverse set of industry segments. Prior to Rockwell, Fox held technology leadership positions as chief technology

officer and director of global information technology operations at Dana Corporation, a Toledo, Ohio-based automotive parts supplier.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Fox holds a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in business administration - management information systems from Ohio University in Athens. He has been an active volunteer with the IT Senior Management Forum focused on expanding the pipeline of diverse IT talent. He is also co-founder of IT United, a CIO advisory board that connects IT professionals with community volunteer opportunities.
