**Role Purpose**
Responsibilities include continuous patrols of the medical center, while being attentive and alert to the safety and welfare of visitors, patients, employees and hospital property. Other responsibilities include the implementation of staff education and professional development programs that ensure officer maintain required certifications. Acts in the role of a department trainer for last two phases of new hire training and for re-certification training for existing officers.
**Responsibilities**
+ Individuals must be 21 years or older to work in this position.
+ Responds to emergency situations according to approved, established Security Department protocol.
+ Completes routine patrol activities while being alert and attentive to the safety and welfare of visitors, patients, volunteers, staff, employees, and hospital property.
+ Mentors officers in areas of job performance identified as needing improvement. Documents actions taken to address these identified areas. Conducts training for new hire officers in basic core tasks routinely assigned to Public Safety officers.
+ Functions as a department resource trainer and conducts training necessary for officers to maintain mandated certification and licensing. Field trainer for officers when come out of Academy. Get every new hire for 10 day- shifts then officer goes to their specific shift for 5 additional days for OTJ training for their specific shift duties.
+ Completes required documentation for all annual department training conducted. This includes certification, re-certification and in-service training courses for existing officers. Documents in detail all remedial training addressing officer deficiencies. Examples include: CPR, ASP(ASP Baton/Collapsible Baton) Training, Defensive Tactics, Non-violent Crisis Intervention

General Summary:
Supports the mission of the Security Services Department in providing a secure and safe environment that allows patients, visitors, personnel and volunteers to deliver or receive quality patient care with minimal threats against their personal well-being and property.
Essential Job Functions:
• Enforce the policies and procedures of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, to serve as a source of authority for enforcing Medical Center policies, guidelines, and procedures.
• Perform on-foot patrols of Medical Center campuses as directed by the Director of Security or his/her designate. Report safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections; look for violations of the Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA and local Fire Code safety violations. Maintain constant communications with the Security Control Center.
• Assist clinical staff with psychiatric patient restraint; monitor and physically mitigating combative or potentially combative patients as directed, escort patients during clinical transport, and perform direct patient observation of patients under medical or psychiatric restrictions.
• Perform emergency response that includes but is not limited to immediate response to distress calls, panic alarms and emergency calls, fire and disaster response, and support Medical Center Emergency conditions and codes such as bomb threats, patient abduction and elopement, response to weapons on campus, armed intruders, weather emergencies, utility or equipment failure, hazardous material issue, or other emergency as directed.
• Physical intervention for the removal of unauthorized persons from hospital property, intervention of disruptive adults, combative patients, and the detention of individuals suspected of criminal acts, being under-the-influence of alcohol or drugs, disorderly conduct, mental instability or other issues for law enforcement intervention.
• Perform locks or unlocks specified entrances/exits.
• Perform access control duties at assigned security posts. Ensure that only authorized personnel are admitted onto hospital premises; confront unauthorized persons for questions, routing or detainment appropriate to the circumstance.
• Perform Security Control room dispatching by utilizing Computer-Aided-Dispatch systems, monitoring closed circuit television (CCTV), two-way radio transmissions, alarm consoles, and receiving customer phone calls to dispatch securityOfficers and perform other Dispatcher-related duties.
• Utilize computer-based incident report software to complete reports, maintain records and assist the department with data collection.
• Appear in court on behalf of the Medical Center to enforce prosecution of individuals for assault, criminal trespass, or other issue as required.
• Direct traffic on Medical Center property and control parking of all patients, parents, visitors and employees. Enforce hospital parking guidelines for visitors, contractors and employees.
• Act as a resource of information for patients, parents, visitors and employees. Escort patients, parents, visitors and employees to and from parking areas as needed.
• Secure lost and found articles; maintains logs of items received.
• Enhance personal professional growth and maintain currency in the security field through voluntary participation in educational programs and review of current literature, as well as contributing to mandated departmental in-service meetings and training sessions.
• When required, operate the Security Vehicle for Security Patrols, Safety Escorts, and Emergency Response in a safe manner while complying with all traffic laws.
• Actively and consistently demonstrate customer service values/goals of Children's Hospital of Chicago Medical Center in all interactions with others.
• Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of one year of security experience in a hospital setting, preferred but not required.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• International Association for Hospital Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic training certification is required to be completed within six months of hire.
• Must have good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to read, write and comprehend the English language well.
• Must be computer literate and have a working knowledge of Windows-based software applications as well as the having the ability to type.
• Must have excellent customer service skills.
• Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI) certification is required to be completed within six months of hire.

* Valid driver's license.

What you'll do at DBH:
* Patrols campus grounds, buildings (interior and exterior checks) on foot & in car, ensures safety of patients/clients, visitors, & employees.
* Assists in emergency/disaster situations (e.g., evacuation of buildings, inclement weather, hospital codes e.g.: Code Black, Silver, Red).
* Makes professional efforts to prevent/deter criminal activities, enforces Ohio Revised Code e.g.: criminal laws, and testifies in court as required.
* Checks identity of persons on grounds and the nature of their business and/or needs; monitors traffic conditions & parking facilities to ensure efficient flow of traffic, checks parking permits, & issues traffic tickets as necessary.
* Investigates/reports alleged criminal complaints
* Makes inquiries on security/safety issues, documents findings, and communicates with hospital administration regarding sensitive issues.
* Screens/searches newly admitted patient(s) and their property for contraband via police policy during the admission process along with checking/logging their valuables with the business office.
* Assists in interior clinical service functions e.g.: responds to Code Violets, Code Blue emergencies e.g.: assists nursing, medical or direct care personnel in emergent incidents that are out of their control and at the clinical supervisor's request in dealing with patients in crisis by utilizing Crisis Intervention/De-escalation protocols.
* Interior control/monitoring and screening (for deter/denying of contraband) of all visitors, returning patients in the utilization of the magnetometer, escorts, assists visitors. Assist in transporting forensic Level 1, 2 or Police Hold patient(s). Calls for assistance staff and/or visitors with mechanical problems.
This is an hourly position covered by the State of Ohio Unit 2 bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of #8 or #10 on the Unit 2 Pay Range Schedule. This position is located within our Heartland Behavioral Healthcare at 3000 Erie Street South, Massillon, OH 44646.

Position Qualifications
Formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions, decimals & percentages & in reading & writing English vocabulary; valid driver's license. Probationary period is one year.
* Or possession of certificate having successfully completed approved basic peace officer training program or completion of 20 yrs. active duty as peace officer per Section 109.78 (D) of Ohio revised code for developmental disabilities & mental health facility employees.
