Black Hawk College company history timeline

1946

Since Moline Community College was founded in 1946, it was colocated with Moline High School in the Beling Building on 16 Street, Moline.

1961

The college continued to offer transfer, career, and adult education classes, and in 1961 it became Black Hawk College – the first county-wide junior college in Illinois.

1965

Illinois Governor Otto Kerner appointed nine members to the newly created Illinois Junior College Board in August, 1965.

In 1965, with the passage of “The Illinois Public Junior College Act,” Black Hawk College became part of the state’s system of higher education, committed to offering traditional liberal arts courses, occupational courses, and adult education courses at its campus in Moline.

1966

In 1966, Steve Ferry, president of the Black Hawk College Student Council, and Doctor Charles Carlson, Dean of Students, worked together to inform the community about the importance of voting 'YES' for the upcoming referendum.

1967

The first new building broke ground in 1967.

Instruction was delivered at the Kewanee National Guard Armory and at Kewanee High School beginning in 1967.

1971

Instruction began at the present site of the East Campus in 1971.

Black Hawk College East was operationally separate from the Quad-Cities Campus from 1971-89.

2017

It was performed by the Black Hawk College Chamber Singers as directed by Jon Palomaki with Christine Engebrecht accompanying on piano. Its premiere performance was Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Black Hawk College Board of Trustees meeting at the Quad-Cities Campus in the Sustainable Technologies Building.
