This position is responsible for assisting the pharmacist in preparing all pharmaceutical dosage forms, except those prepared by the IV Trained technician and those dosages requiring the specialized skills of the pharmacist.
The position prepares dosage forms and prescriptions to the point of #final check# approval by the pharmacist and prepares patient medication safely and effectively in addition to maintaining the drug inventory and patient records; under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
All duties are carried out only by a registered pharmacist.
This position is responsible for distributing medications throughout the organization.

The Pharmacy Technician:
Dispenses medication to fill prescription requests for inpatient Unit Dose Cassettes and SRAlab sites of care.
Prepacks tablets, capsules, and liquids under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist and according to policy.

Experience adding measured drugs or nutrients to intravenous solutions under sterile conditions to prepare intravenous (IV) preparation under pharmacist supervision.
Strong mathematical ability to interpret prescription orders, dispense medication including compounding of tablets to liquid.

Time management and multi-tasking ability required to work in a fast paced, time sensitive environment to ensure timely delivery of daily cart and orders as needed.
Demonstrated follow through, decision making, and analytical skills required to address discrepancies, missing medications and ordering new medications.
Experience with Microsoft Office, Cerner and Talyst auto carousel, preferred.
Ability to push delivery carts weighing up to 40 lbs., lift and stock items for delivery and inventory control.

General Summary of Position Responsibility:
Selects and prepares medications, fills, exchanges and credits unit‑dose carts and processes drug orders. Answers and screens phone calls. Prepares cytotoxic agents when necessary.
Essential Job Functions:
Enters new orders under the direction of a pharmacist. Processes new prescriptions and refills. Puts cardexes in order and prints new profiles when necessary.
Prepares labels manually or by computer for oral doses, injectables and large volume parenterals when necessary.
Selects and prepares appropriate oral, topical and injectable medications for new medication orders, unit‑dose carts and outpatient prescriptions when applicable. Prepares cytotoxic agents when necessary.
Fills, exchanges and credits unit-dose carts upon authorization of a pharmacist. Notifies pharmacists of returned doses. Returns usable stock to inventory.
Stocks shelves and notes low stock items on stock reorder form. Prepacks bulk medication as needed. Inspects stock of assigned areas to ensure that medications are stored properly and are in date.
Maintains physical appearance of department. Screens telephone calls and effectively communicates telephone messages to co-workers.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Completion of two years of college with at least one general mathematics course preferred.
One (1) year of pharmacy technician experience preferred. Licensure or eligibility for licensure as Registered Pharmacy Technician in the State of Illinois.
Must be able to follow instructions accurately and be capable of following well organized work routine.
Must be able to learn and master the procedures and techniques necessary to operate the unit‑dose system.
Must have good interpersonal and communication skills to function within a team and to interact with tact and courtesy with all hospital employees and customers. Must complete an annual validation of aseptic techniques including handling of multiple-dispensed sterile bulk products.
Must have good mathematical skills in order to perform calculations, make dilutions and maintain records.
Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must have computer data entry skills or ability to learn computer data entry.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The pharmacy technician assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. GENERAL SUMMARY
Starting Range: 20.00-24.00. The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy. Assists the pharmacist in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Fill new medication orders and cassettes and prepare for Pharmacist's review.
Assist in reconciliation of missing orders and doses and complete required documentation.
Deliver stock medications and place in appropriate storage location.
Complete all assigned charging and crediting functions, including from miscellaneous sources.
Prepackage medications, such as oral liquids, simple batch compounding, and starter doses for review.
Stock medications to their appropriate locations, rotate stock as necessary and check outdates, and assist in maintaining adequate stock levels.
Maintain assigned inspection section and check outdates monthly.
Enter appropriate information-such as NDC, manufacturer, bar-code, lot #, expiration date-for each medication being packaged.
Performs duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, and Staff Pharmacist including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions. Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining work flow.
Reports, immediately, prescription errors to pharmacist on duty and adheres to Company policies and procedures in relation to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
Performs other position related duties as assigned.
Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.
