Betsy Jett has joined NYBC as its Vice President, Quality and Regulatory Affairs, after an extensive national search. She comes to NYBC from the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, Office of Blood Research and Review, where she was the Deputy Associate Director for Regulatory Affairs.

Ms. Jett brings to NYBC a wealth of experience working with clinical laboratory technologists, information technology experts, and quality assurance and regulatory affairs personnel - most notably in several successive positions at the NIH Clinical Center’s Department of Transfusion Medicine. She has authored journal articles, book chapters, and lectured on quality and disaster management topics.

She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University, did graduate course work and the NIH Senior Leadership Program at the University of Maryland in College Park, and earned several quality certifications. She was a volunteer with the Peace Corps in the Yemen Arab Republic, and her lifetime of civic participation includes significant involvement in the start-up of multiple nonprofit organizations, and service on their boards as an officer. Ms. Jett will be responsible for all quality and regulatory activities - truly essential and vital elements of the life-saving work performed each and every day at New York Blood Center.

Elizabeth J. McQuail

EVP & COO

Betsy McQuail is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at New York Blood Center. With over 28 years of experience in blood center operations, strategic planning, quality, production planning/inventory management and information technology, Betsy is a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for planning, leading and executing corporate strategy and direction. She oversees a $165M budget and approximately 800 employees and has direct P & L responsibility for the Operations and Manufacturing business unit including all donor marketing, recruitment, collections, laboratories, distribution, logistics, computer applications that support Operations and Manufacturing, including eProgesa, Hemasphere, DRM (Donor Relationship Management) and BOSS (Blood Operations Support System) systems. Her responsibilities also include recovered plasma sales, contracts and relationships and oversight of process improvement and SOPs, incident reporting and product licensure.

Betsy is a graduate of George Mason University with a B.S. in Industrial Psychology.

Jay Mohr

EVP & Chief Financial & Business Officer

As Executive Vice President and Chief Financial and Business Officer, Jay Mohr provides financial, business development and venture investing leadership to New York Blood Center Enterprises and is also responsible for leading the cellular therapy manufacturing, National Cord Blood Program and facilities operations of NYBC.

Jay brings 30 years of successful executive leadership in the biopharmaceutical industry. Having previously served as a C-level executive of several pharma and life science companies, Jay has vast experience in capital formation, P&L management, and corporate and business development, and in these roles, his efforts generated significant shareholder value. He co-founded Locust Walk Partners, a global investment bank that executes strategic transactions and capital raising for innovative life science companies. He was also founding CEO of Gloucester Pharmaceuticals, a hematology therapeutics company acquired by Celgene. Earlier in his career, Jay worked in senior business development and commercial roles at Variagenics, EMD Serono (now Merck KGaA) and Schering-Plough (new Merck).

Jay currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of the T1D Exchange and is a Director on the Boards of Mesentech and the Maine Technological Institute. Jay graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and German. He holds his Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Robert Purvis

EVP & Chief of Staff

Rob Purvis has worked with New York Blood Center (NYBC) for more than 10 years, currently serving as Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff. Previously, he led two NYBC divisions: Hudson Valley Blood Services and then New York Blood Services in Manhattan. Prior to joining NYBC, he spent 10 years at The Blood Center of Wisconsin as Vice President of Blood Services -- overseeing blood service operations, materials management, and purchasing.

In his current role, Rob is responsible for a wide portfolio, including: Sales and Marketing to NYBC’s partner hospitals for blood, laboratory, medical, and clinical services; Communications and Public Relations; Development / Fundraising, and Volunteer Leadership.

The focus of Rob’s efforts are to create an environment of superior customer service both internally and externally, while providing competitively-priced products and services that exceed customers’ expectations. He is credited with the creation of a Customer Service Department that supports NYBC’s customer needs for products and services as well as an external Customer Relations Team charged with broadening face-to-face exposure and building positive relationships at all levels of NYBC’s customer base.

Rob is NYBC’s chief public spokesperson, and as such is a regular presence on news media both in New York City and across the country. He is also a member of the Senior Leadership Team for NYBC, which manages all day-to-day operations as well as providing strategic counsel.

Rob is a Member of the Board of Directors of America’s Blood Centers (ABC) and a Member of the Association of America’s Blood Banks (AABB). He is also a Member of the Board of Directors of the Westchester Boys and Girls Club.
