Battelle's Life Science Research is seeking a full-time technician to work in Pathology to perform necropsy procedures on small and large animal, to trim tissues for histopathology process and generate data for various types of studies. This position is Monday through Friday and will require overtime on nights, weekends and to be on call; schedule also include holidays. **Responsibilities** + TECHNICAL: + The primary role is to perform necropsy examinations of small and large laboratory animals; to include gross necropsy, tissue collection, fixation, and labeling of specimens. + Work with highly hazardous biological/toxic materials in Biological Safety Level 2 (BSL-2) and Biological Safety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratories. + Process tissues for the histopathology team following established SOPs and safety protocols; cross-train in histology (e.g., embedding, sectioning, staining) to assist histology workflows to provide flexible coverage + Contributing to the development and validation of equipment and necropsy activities. + Understanding and performing dilutions including mathematical calculations involved. + Decontaminating equipment and materials. + EQUIPMENT/LAB: + Act as lab technical point of contact. + Laboratory cleaning and upkeep of equipment and space. + Inventory, ordering and receipt of supplies. + Waste management, operation of autoclaves, preparation of bleach and other decontamination solutions. + Use proper technique to operate necessary equipment to produce high quality data. + Perform routine maintenance and/or calibration of equipment as necessary. Prepare, maintain, and archive equipment logbooks. + Use electronic databases for sample tracking and documenting necropsy examinations. + Operate routine computer programs and perform basic data manipulation in a spreadsheet environment. + Set up, validate, and operate laboratory equipment and software. + DOCUMENTATION/COMPLIANCE/SAFETY: + Read SOPs, methods, facility guidelines, etc. used in workplace in a timely manner and adhere to these procedures. + Record data and perform quality control reviews in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). + Perform timely quality control and/or technical review of electronic and/or paper data. + Create and maintain study files in accordance with standard operating procedures, protocol, quality requirements and client specifications. Prepare and submit study files and forms to Quality Control or Quality Assurance. + Recognize when technical operations deviate from accepted practices and prepare deviation reports as needed. Report observations/problems clearly and concisely, recognizing and highlighting specific deviations. + Adhere to all laboratory safety requirements. + LEADERSHIP/TEAMWORK: + Train and guide less experienced staff on specific tasks. + Serve as technical co-lead on portions of studies. + Work independently and efficiently in a team environment. + ANALYSIS/FUNCTIONAL: + Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required. Must be able to keep simultaneous frozen section specimens on different patients and/or same patient with multiple sites separated, properly identified, labeled, and organized. 10% Autopsy Performance: Identify and prepare the body for autopsy. Perform the evisceration of autopsy cases. Evisceration includes organ/organ block removal, weighing of selected organs. Closing of the body cavities and cleaning of the autopsy suite. The cleaning is to follow the established safety and infection control procedures. 10% Maintenance of Gross Room: Ensure that all instruments are sharp and that workstations are well stocked. Maintain all machines in an excellent working manner. Keep supply inventory at an optimum level and order supplies when needed. This position is integral to delivering high-quality, specialized wound care in patients' homes, skilled nursing facilities, and clinic settings. Under the direction of the Practice Manager and Nurse Practitioner, you will play a critical role in supporting wound care procedures, patient education, and treatment coordination. This is a travel-based role requiring the operation of a company vehicle to provide wound care services. Extensive driving is required, and adherence to professional driving standards is expected. However, as of January 1, 2026, the Westerville Division of Fire is also seeking full-time Firefighters with EMT-Basic certifications (FT FF/EMT-B). Candidates hired as a FF/EMT-B must be enrolled in a Paramedic Certification Program within 6 months of their hire date and must successfully complete the certification within 36 months as a condition of continued employment. Per contract guidelines, the division will cover the remaining tuition for those already enrolled in a paramedic program or the full tuition for those who have not yet started. Hired EMT-B candidates will be placed at a training rate step ($26.91/hour) until the satisfactory completion of a paramedic certification.Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Fire Division Lieutenant. Guidance is provided by Division operating manuals which outlines various protocols. Employees must deal with irregular work demands, some which may be very intense, physically demanding, and at times hazardous. Work is reviewed daily by an immediate supervisor and annual reviews are completed by the Lieutenants. Work may include temporary assignment as unit supervisor. (May not include all duties performed.) Responds to fire and emergency medical alarms. Assists in fire suppression activities. Administers basic life support, advanced life support and emergency medical treatment to individuals in life threatening and/or hazardous situations. Utilizes emergency medical equipment, devices and supplies. Assists with maintaining equipment and fire station. Removes individuals from burning structures or hazardous situations. Operates fire pumps, hydrants and high volume hoses to control fires. Moves furniture and/or building material to limit fire/smoke damage. Climbs ladders to assist in personal safety or property protection. Utilizes breathing packs, axes, shovels and other related equipment to control fire/smoke damage. Attends practices and receives training to improve and maintain fire fighting and EMS skills and certifications. Drives City vehicles during emergency responses. Performs routine inspections of buildings to ensure compliance with City and State fire safety codes. Assists in fire/safety educational programs. Works 24-hour shifts. High school diploma or G.E.D. Certified as an Ohio firefighter II. Must be a certified EMT by the State of Ohio. Must be enrolled in a paramedic program OR have the ability to enroll in a certified paramedic program within 6 months of hire. Must possess valid State of Ohio Motor Vehicle Operator's License free from excessive violations. Must be able to successfully complete and pass Ohio Fire Safety Inspector course. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for varied periods of time under possibly dangerous conditions. Ability to work in severe weather conditions. Ability to climb ladders.
