They came to Michigan starting in 1938, when the Michigan Society for Group Hospitalization formed.
The two worked together in 1939 on bills to regulate prepaid health care plans and make them nonprofit, like community-based hospitals.
By 1940, the Michigan Medical Service was open for business.
In 1975, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan bought small health plans in east and mid-Michigan.
In 1998, these HMOs merged to form Blue Care Network of Michigan, the largest HMO in Michigan.
2001: Started promoting the quality and value of generic drugs.
2009: Launched the Patient-Centered Medical Home program.
In January 2016, our service area expanded to include 29 additional counties.
United States News and World Report rated BCN Advantage the best HMO-POS plan in Michigan for 2017.
Blue Care Network NCQA Rating (Commercial) Commendable status and rating of 4.5, the highest ranking among all Michigan Commercial plans and an increase from 2018.
