The program works with weekly drop-in and service group volunteers (mostly youth groups), contributinggreatly tothe maintenance of Acadias natural and cultural resources. Friends of Acadia is committed to providing an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming environment for visitors, volunteers and staff from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Stewardship Drop-In Program (40%) The Drop-In in program takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8am 12:30pm, is open to the public, and does not require preregistration. Discuss project details with Volunteer Crew Leaders (VCLs) andassistwith gathering supplies/tools Greet volunteers as they arrive andfacilitatevolunteer sign-in sheets and waiverformcompletion. Give morningbriefingon FOA/ANPpartnership, upcoming happenings, the days projects as well as outdoor hazards and preparedness. Join volunteers out in the field andassistonproject if schedule allows. Service Groups (25%): Lead volunteer projects on the trails and carriage roads, including but not limited to: drainage clearing, weeding on carriage roads, cutting vegetation from trail corridors, clearing trailside drainage,maintaininghistoric trail surfaces (i.e.resurfacing, check step installation, grade dips, etc.), and constructingbogwalk. Prioritize safety of volunteers by leading safety trainings for service groups on outdoor hazards,demonstratingproper tool usage, and responding to any incidents. Facilitate volunteer sign-in sheets and waiverformcompletion. Incorporate service-learning curriculum and reflection activities throughout. Scouting, Planning, and Prepping projects (20%): Scout andassistin planning work assignments for volunteer projects based on the annual maintenance schedule and park needs. Serve asrovingambassador for FOA while out in the field. Perform weekly systems: Tool distribution, collection, maintenance, inventory, and cleaning Van cleaning, fueling, and general maintenance. Reports any equipment issues to the Stewardship Coordinator Attend andparticipatein weekly stewardship crew meetings. Coordinate and deliver materials for projects. Office/Admin Work (10%) Prepare paperwork for upcoming projects. Communicate with volunteers regarding project coordination, including but not limited to, sending a weekly email to all volunteers. Assistwith data reporting for volunteer projects. Large Events (5%): Work with FOA staff on large events such as the FOA annual meeting, benefit auction, volunteer appreciation events, local parades, and Take PrideinAcadia Day. Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Applicants willbe requiredto pass a background check. Must be capable of hiking up to 8 miles per day wearing a pack weighing up to 25lbs, working in inclement weather and on steep terrain, andlifting upto 50 lbs. Valid Drivers License and reliable vehicle for driving to job sites. Applicants will be expected to use their own automobiles and will be reimbursed for mileage beyond their daily commute. Must also be comfortable driving a 12-passenger van and large trucks. Must be able to attend the Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor course in June which may include one night of camping.
