TMS International Corp. provides outsourced industrial services to steel mills in North America and internationally. It operates through two segments, Mill Services Group and Raw Material and Optimization Group. The Mill Services group offers scrap management and preparation services, including inspection, preparation, and delivery of raw materials, primarily scrap, as well as inventory control through logistics management services; and semi-finished and finished material handling services comprising handling and transportation of semi-finished and finished steel products, such as steel slabs, billets, and plates. This group also provides metal recovery and slag handling, processing, and sale services consisting of recycling and processing the slag to recover metallic material; and surface conditioning services, including removing imperfections from semi-finished steel products to be used in applications that require unblemished finishes, such as household appliances and automobiles. The Raw Material and Optimization group offers raw materials procurement and logistics services comprising purchasing raw material inputs on behalf of customers, including ferrous scrap, scrap substitutes, coke, ore, non-ferrous metals, ferro-alloys, and other raw materials used in steel making, as well as arranging point-to-point delivery logistics. This group also provides proprietary software-based raw materials cost optimization services that consist of development and marketing of Scrap OptiMiser and GenBlend software applications, which aid mills in the planning, procurement, and utilization of ferrous scrap and scrap substitutes, as well as GenBlend A+, a software package, for optimization of non-ferrous metals. The company also offers other services, such as dust and debris management, mobile maintenance, refractory removal, vacuumation, stevedoring, and equipment rental services.
