Blue Ridge Medical Center company history timeline
Blue Ridge Medical Center first opened the doors of a small modular building in July 1985 with one doctor and three exam rooms.
Founded in 1985 in the Colleen area of Nelson County, Virginia, Blue Ridge Medical Center offers primary care, pediatrics, dentistry, x-ray, lab, physical therapy, and behavioral health.
The Hairfields had three children: Beverly Dew Hairfield, Jr., Frances Taylor Hairfield, and Nancy Lassiter Hairfield (Sharp). Doctor Hairfield died on July 8, 1995.
1997 Intensive Care Unit on fifth floor is renamed Doctor James R. Collett Critical Care Unit.
1998 In December 1998, the Grace Hospital Board of Directors enters an agreement with Valdese Hospital and Carolinas HealthCare System to form a new operating company, Blue Ridge HealthCare.
The two organizations have developed a close, interactive relationship since 1998.
2003 Pathology services at Grace and Valdese are consolidated into one unit.
2004 The 3,000-square-foot fixed cardiac catheterization lab opens.
2005 Pulmonary services are added because of high incidences of lung-related diseases in Burke County.
2007 Physicians and hospitals begin moving toward electronic patient records, and Blue Ridge invests in new technology and computer infrastructure.
2008 For the first time, Burke County has two kidney specialists on the medical staff as the hospital opens a nephrology service.
2009 After years of acquiring physician practices, Blue Ridge HealthCare officially forms Blue Ridge Medical Group as its own entity.
2012 In 2012, Grace and Valdese Hospitals are merged under a single provider number.
In 2013, GME launched a gastroenterology fellowship program.
2013 Kathy C. Bailey is named President and CEO, the first woman to head the organization since Mrs.
2014 In May 2014, Grace Hospital officially becomes Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge - Morganton.
