Herden first heard about the property east of Niceville from a business associate in May 1975.
1978: First homes are built on St Croix Cove and St John Cove in the Caribbean Village neighborhood of Bluewater Bay.
1993: Construction begins on Magnolia Plantation, the final neighborhood of single-family homes in Bluewater Bay.
March 25, 2003: Voters approve a referendum creating a Municipal Services Benefit Unit to collect taxes to maintain common areas in Bluewater Bay and provide other services.
In April 2013, the resort closed the course after homeowners balked at plans to shorten its layout and sell some of its acreage to developers.
July 2015: Developers celebrate the grand opening of Superior Residences of Bluewater Bay, an independent living retirement community.
