Summary of Position:
Zero Motorcycles is looking for a capable Senior Electrical Hardware Design Engineer to join the Electrical Systems Department to own the design and development of Vehicle Controllers and Battery Management Systems from concept to production using automotive industry development tools while meeting Quality, Cost and Timing targets with appropriate suppliers.
We are looking for an individual that enjoys a position in which new technologies are to continuously improve our products and offerings. This individual should be capable of understanding requirements to convey tasks needed to meet new design challenges and demonstrate experience relentlessly tracking down details required to successfully resolve each task championed.
Job requirements
What you will do:
Develop requirements, specifications, Design schematics and electrical assemblies using test-driven-development to meet project performance requirements.
Planning using MS Project or similar, to track development activities including Development of requirements, Designing, Ordering, Design Validation of PCBAs and electrical components
Communicate requirements clearly for software/firmware features required to support new component integration.
Conduct Design Reviews, Peer reviews of designs, features, and marketing/engineering specifications
Work with component vendors to qualify parts to meet the needs of the system architecture
Balance priorities to deliver design qualified and manufactured products on program schedules
Provide production-release support
What you will bring:
Education/Experience:
BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar area or equivalent experience
5+ years' experience designing and producing PCBAs with both digital and analog circuits.
Hands-on debug and bring up of PCBAs with embedded processors.
Experience with Electric Vehicles required.
Experience with EV BMS design is a plus.
Skills and Attributes
Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving ability with embedded software systems.
Process-oriented design, test, and documentation practice.
Experience using Automotive development processes.
Proficiency in using lab equipment (Power supplies, Oscilloscopes, Multimeters).

The estimated salary range for a new hire in this position is $130,000 to $160,000. Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors, which may include candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience. Base Salary Range
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Purpose
The Automation Controls Engineer will support the development of flexible robotic manufacturing systems, core to the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS).

The Role
Develop PLC, HMI & SCADA software & controls architectures for the next generation of DAPS factories & factory modules.
Contribute to automation standards, frameworks, best practices, and platform selection.
Architect new advanced automation systems, ultimately leading to detailed design, development, and commissioning of first article factory modules.
Develop controls systems for new and experimental processes in an R&D environment.
Understand and steer production operations requirements for factory modules leading to increased overall factory OPE through better development of modules and factory data.

Purpose
The Automation Controls Engineer will support the development of flexible robotic manufacturing systems, core to the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS).
The ideal candidate has a track record of successfully architecting and deploying advanced automated systems in a quick changing, start-up environment. This role will take a hands-on execution approach and use their hardware and software skills to create bleeding-edge industrial automation systems, support production operations, and democratize factory data to support key business decisions. Divergent is pushing the boundaries of technology and we need a passionate and agile engineer to help us create the platform for sustainable manufacturing.
The Role
Develop PLC, HMI & SCADA software & controls architectures for the next generation of DAPS factories & factory modules.
Contribute to automation standards, frameworks, best practices, and platform selection.
Architect new advanced automation systems, ultimately leading to detailed design, development, and commissioning of first article factory modules.
Develop controls systems for new and experimental processes in an R&D environment.
Understand and steer production operations requirements for factory modules leading to increased overall factory OPE through better development of modules and factory data.
Work closely with cross-functional technical teams to ensure that program deliverables and milestones are defined, scheduled, and executed on time and budget.
Support engineering teams in achieving resolution of any gridlock, rather than merely report status. Must have the leadership ability and intelligence to drive hands-on execution of a highly motivated and intelligent team under intense time constraints.
Basic Qualifications
Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls.
5 years of industrial automation controls experience in dynamic environments.
IEC 61131-3 Structured Text programming experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, UL508A standards.
Experience designing electrical control panels using EPlan or AutoCAD
Advanced experience working with the Beckhoff TwinCAT & hardware ecosystem.
Advanced experience with industrial automation hardware, fieldbus interfaces and motion control.
Advanced industrial networking experience
