This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

During your internship for the Optimus Actuator Design Team at Tesla, you will be working on interesting new robotic electromechanical actuator designs that power Teslas Optimus humanoid robot. We are seeking driven and accomplished engineering student candidates who will thrive in a fast paced and engaging design environment.

Prototype assembling and testing
Python and Matlab test script and actuator model development
What Youll Bring
Excellent CAD skills in (CATIA or Solidworks)
Mechanical design experience, both in part optimization and design for manufacturing (design, drawings, GDT)
Experience with FEA based part design and optimization
Python/Matlab knowledge, both in data structure management, UI development, symbolic equations, and iterative solvers
Handy, with previous machining/shop experience / 3D printed part design experience
Hands on actuator and component (motor, gear, sensors) testing
Problem solving with first principles thinking
Experience in Robotics is preferred
Experience in Control Theory with basic understanding of motor and motion control is preferred

Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in a relevant area such as Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
* 12+ years of work experience in Electronic Control Unit (ECU) software integration testing and test development
* Extremely strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, coupled with an understanding/knowledge/experience with reading, troubleshooting, and injecting packets over various network protocols such as CAN, LIN, and Ethernet
* Very proficient in interacting with Linux systems over the command line/terminal, including developing and troubleshooting shell (bash) scripts

Base Salary Range
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. Purpose
The Manufacturing Engineer bridges design and production, optimizing designs for manufacturability while enhancing processes to support high-reliability hardware. The Powertrain Battery Pack Manufacturing Engineer II will be responsible for taking the lead role in designing new Powertrain equipment at Lucid. Purpose
Guide the integration of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies into production, ensuring reliability, cost efficiency, and quality. The Role
* Lead a multi-disciplinary team of manufacturing engineers responsible for driving design-for-manufacturing, process development, and implementation of advanced manufacturing methods across the DAPS manufacturing architecture.
* Oversee manufacturing requirements, process specifications, and root cause investigations to ensure reliable, high-quality production.
* Set team priorities, track projects, and mentor engineers to achieve critical company milestones.
* Develop industry-leading approaches to manufacturing process qualification, production scalability, and automation.
* Implement advanced manufacturing strategies in areas such as machining, additive manufacturing, assembly, bonding, coatings, and joining.
* Identify and deploy novel manufacturing technologies to improve quality, reduce cost, and increase throughput.

Basic Qualifications
* Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related discipline.
* 3+ years of experience in a leadership role within manufacturing engineering.
* 8+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering role, with significant exposure to aerospace or defense industries.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Siemens NX, AutoCAD) and strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
* Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
* Hands-on experience with advanced manufacturing techniques, including additive manufacturing, robotics, and automation.
* Proven track record of leading complex projects from concept through production, focusing on high-performance materials and high-reliability applications.

Purpose

The Automation Controls Engineer will support the development of flexible robotic manufacturing systems, core to the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS).
The ideal candidate has a track record of successfully architecting and deploying advanced automated systems in a quick changing, start-up environment. This role will take a hands-on execution approach and use their hardware and software skills to create bleeding-edge industrial automation systems, support production operations, and democratize factory data to support key business decisions. The Role
Develop PLC, HMI & SCADA software & controls architectures for the next generation of DAPS factories & factory modules.
Contribute to automation standards, frameworks, best practices, and platform selection.
Architect new advanced automation systems, ultimately leading to detailed design, development, and commissioning of first article factory modules.
Develop controls systems for new and experimental processes in an R&D environment.
Understand and steer production operations requirements for factory modules leading to increased overall factory OPE through better development of modules and factory data.
Work closely with cross-functional technical teams to ensure that program deliverables and milestones are defined, scheduled, and executed on time and budget.
Support engineering teams in achieving resolution of any gridlock, rather than merely report status. Must have the leadership ability and intelligence to drive hands-on execution of a highly motivated and intelligent team under intense time constraints.
Basic Qualifications
Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls.
5 years of industrial automation controls experience in dynamic environments.
IEC 61131-3 Structured Text programming experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, UL508A standards.
Experience designing electrical control panels using EPlan or AutoCAD
Advanced experience working with the Beckhoff TwinCAT & hardware ecosystem.
Advanced experience with industrial automation hardware, fieldbus interfaces and motion control.
Advanced industrial networking experience
Experience with industrial safety systems, risk assessments and safety over fieldbus protocols, i.e. FSoE & PROFIsafe
Experience developing SCADA & other factory data management platforms, industrial databases, dashboards, etc..
Experience with Industrial robot platforms, offline program, and virtual commissioning.
Experience with industrial electrical schematic tools, such as EPlan or AutoCAD electrical.
Experience with standard software engineering practices, object-oriented programming, SOLID, unit testing and development tools such as GIT.
Technical leadership experience in defining standards, methods, processes, and training.

At Divergent, our pay range is based on the level of the job. For this role, we will consider candidates at levels E04 - E05 as evaluated through our interview process.

Senior / E05: $122,400 - $168,300
