Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for an Associate or Mid-LevelAtmospheric Scientist (Level 2 or 3) to join our exclusive team at the Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
We are seeking a highly skilled individual with a strong background in data analysis, modeling, and simulation. This position will support the data analysis, hardware, and software development of electro-optical systems. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to advancements in technology using cutting-edge equipment at a historically significant site.
This position supports the R&D mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities. The site houses telescope research facilities ranging in size from 0.5m up to 3.5m with advanced optical systems. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting atmospheric research, data analysis products and image/signal algorithm development.

Position Responsibilities:
* Provide daily detailed forecast for night operations.
* Work with current onsite weather sensors and provide recommendations for improved site instrumentation and visualizations.
* Interpret and validate numerical weather prediction data (GFS, ECMWF, HRRR, NAM, others) and proficiently communicate the results to decision-makers.
* Assist in the development and documentation of weather requirements for telescope operations.
* Analysis, modeling, and interpretation of Adaptive Optics systems
* Model development of complex optics and optical systems.
* Evaluation and verification of optical systems performance and design.
* Perform analysis of meteorological data, write technical reports, and maintain a climatology database for the site.
* Conduct experiments with small telescopes and meteorological equipment.
* Observation and interpretation of real time digital weather radar and GOES satellite data.
* Understand relevant weather statistics and prediction indicators.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
* Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or other natural science discipline
* 2+ years of experience with data analysis of large datasets
* 2+ years of experience with computer programming in MATLAB, LabVIEW, Fortran, Java, Mathematica or C++
* 2+ years of experience forecasting meteorological parameters
* Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact and present technical material to internal leadership and customers
* Must be willing to work variable shifts; including day, evening, night, and weekends
* Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI security clearance

Position Responsibilities:
Perform security analysis of operational and development environments, threats, vulnerabilities and internal interfaces to define and assess compliance with accepted industry and government standards
Implement the Assessment and Authorization (A&A) processes under the Risk Managed Framework (RMF) for new and existing information systems
Facilitate development of Memorandums of Understanding (MOU), Interconnection Security Agreements (ISA), Risk Acceptance Letters (RAL) and support Continuous Monitoring (CONMON)

This position supports the R&D mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities. The site houses telescope research facilities ranging in size from 0.5m up to 3.5m with advanced optical systems. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the development, optimization, and maintenance of embedded electro-mechanical pointing and tracking control systems.
The ideal candidate would assist with the documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for hardware systems. Position Responsibilities:
Ability to use and troubleshoot electronic circuitry with basic test devices (i.e. Volt meter, DMM, logic analyzer, oscilloscope, clock generators, function generators).
Ability to gather requirements, develop designs, create schematics & layouts, implement, test, deploy and maintain a board/system in cooperation with the customer.
Create documentation and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, hardware design, digital design, and system design.
Manage multiple projects and priorities through their full lifecycle.
Calculate power estimates of modules to support thermal analysis and pedestal design.
Provide electrical constraint information for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout and support.
Support prototype builds, ensuring adherence to released documentation or any markups.
Troubleshoot root causes of existing system failures using basic test devices during environmental and Electromagnetic Capability (EMC) validation.
Manage Bill of Materials (BOMs) for cost estimates and perform BOM walk cost reviews for engineering changes with managers.

**Position Responsibilities:**
+ Develop, implement, and sustain product security and resiliency throughout the requirements, design, build, test, production, operations, and support lifecycle.
+ Develop and enhance system requirements and architectures for product security to meet all applicable certification and customer requirements.
+ Ensure security of facilities, equipment, tools, data, networks, and resources used for product: design, development, build, test, storage, delivery, operations, and support.
+ Define and identify product security requirements for suppliers of components and subsystems for integration into Boeing products and services.
+ Coordinate with government, customers, suppliers, and industry to identify risks and improve industry and regulatory security standards and requirements for programs and interfacing systems.
+ Conduct research and development activities that result in innovative solutions.
+ Advise customers on maintaining product security and certification, including security consequences of modifying products and services.

**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement, and 10 to 15 years of relevant work experience.
+ Skills and abilities to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources. Develop and support security developmental and operational test planning & execution.
+ Engineering-focused experience in incident response, designing and implementing technical controls and workflows to detect, contain, and remediate cyber incidents while preserving forensic integrity.
+ Ability to identify susceptibility, survivability, and vulnerability (S/V) of the systems, subsystems and delivery mechanisms, based on the knowledge of characteristics and capabilities of threats (e.g. protocol exploits, identity spoofing, malware injection techniques, application layer vulnerabilities).
+ Knowledge of emerging computing and information technology areas to manage advanced research computing technology proposals, projects and resources.
+ Knowledge of system security domains (e.g., information assurance, anti-tamper, intrusion detection, software protection, software assurance, communications security, encryption and key management, network security, reverse engineering, countermeasures, certification and accreditation, special security endorsement) and industry and government guidance and regulations which engineers apply to produce secure systems. Experience with performing system security engineering activities that follow NIST 800-160. Strong understanding of secure network architecture and design
+ Experienced in engineering requirements decomposition. Demonstrated expertise in implementing and maintaining DoD security policies and regulations, including threat & risk assessments, accreditation processes, and continuous monitoring to ensure mission assurance and compliance
+ Knowledge and understanding of the methodology and processes associated with risk management, conducting trade studies including cost as an independent variable (CAIV) trade. Ability to: identify and quantify potential risks areas within specific (depth) and across multiple engineering disciplines (breadth); understand design constraints (technical, cost & schedule); identify and trade alternatives (i.e., trade studies); select/recommend the best plan for mitigating risks; implement and execute plans for mitigating risk; and establish appropriate performance tracking metrics to track risk burndown over time.
+ Ability to effectively utilize risk management tools (iso-risk charts/plots, waterfall, etc.) to support program/project execution.
+ Demonstrated systems-thinking to analyze complex technical and organizational interactions, identify root causes, and design scalable, resilient solutions across hardware, software, and process domains.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Knowledgeable in applying Multi-Level Security (MLS) and Cross-Domain Solutions (CDS) to enable secure information sharing across classification and network domains
+ Proficient in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools to design, analyze, and validate complex systems throughout the lifecycle.
+ Understanding Secure Software Development within DevSecOps
+ Knowledgeable in Cyber Supply Chain Risk Management (C-SCRM) to identify, assess, and mitigate supplier-originated risks across hardware, software, and services.
+ Advanced knowledge of design concepts and techniques (e.g., concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly [DFM/A]).
+ Familiarity with industrial control systems (ICS) and proprietary standards and protocols.
