BECU company history timeline

1935

Meritrust was originally chartered in December of 1935 when employees from the Stearman Aircraft Company in Wichita collaborated and organized an employees credit union.

In 1935, new employees for The Boeing Company were required to purchase their own tools before they could start work.

1941

In 1941, Boeing Aircraft Company bought Stearman Aircraft and in the process, our name was changed to Wichita Boeing Employees Credit Union to reflect the new company.

1984

The Bank Employees credit union was formed in August of 1984 and by November, the Bank Employees Union had called strike action due to a break down in wage negotiations.

1994

In 1994, our Board of Directors made the decision to change our charter to allow us to serve everyone within our communities, in addition to Boeing Aircraft Company employees.

2008

The Bright Promise Scholarship Program was established in 2008 to provide half-tuition scholarships to students pursuing degrees in four areas of study at Eastern Washington University and the Community Colleges of Spokane:
