FirstCarbon Solutions(FCS) is seeking an Environmental Services Intern (CG01) to assist the team with performing analyses, research, and documentation support for Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs) on a variety of subject areas, including land use, socio-economics, earth resources, hydrology, air quality, noise, cultural resources, etc., and provide general administrative support in environmental document preparation. This intern role includes exposure to various areas of environmental consulting services, working with subject matter experts to create a well-rounded solution for our clients.

This paid internship is available in a hybrid capacity splitting time between remote work and our Irvine or Walnut Creek location. Duties and Responsibilities
Support Project Managers with appropriate research information in order to respond to project documentation requirements.
Ensure requirements of CEQA and NEPA are met by completing analysis and documentation within specific guidelines.
Gain practical knowledge of the environmental consulting industry.
Provide assistance to Project Managers in the preparation, organization, and production of EIRs.
Incorporate sub-consultant reports and personal research and knowledge into appropriate sections of environmental documents.
Communicate with various jurisdictions, agencies, and sub-consultants to collect and verify information.
Conduct field studies and land use surveys.

The Team
Machine Learning is at the heart of Upstart's business model, our models

The Role
As a Machine Learning Engineering Intern at Upstart, you'll build tools and production‑grade code that make our models better and our researchers faster (think MLE: {Code} → {Better Code}). You will implement algorithmic improvements that boost predictive power, training efficiency, or serving latency; design reliable data/feature pipelines; and automate repeatable workflows that reduce time from research to deployment and monitoring. You'll receive mentorship from experienced ML practitioners and collaborate closely with ML scientists to deliver solutions to real‑world engineering problems.
How you'll make an impact:
Deliver projects that improve model performance, efficiency, latency or reliability.
Write production-grade code, i.e. tested, reviewed and scalable Python.
Communicate findings clearly to get buy-in for recommended next steps. Work with your mentor toalign stakeholders, and drive next steps.
Minimum qualifications
Strong academic credentials with an ongoing bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, physics, machine learning, or other quantitative areas of study. We require that you are on track to graduate by the summer of 2027 (our internship program is not open to first- and second-year undergraduates).
Programming skills in Python.
Proficiency across machine learning, numerical computing, and software engineering fundamentals. Foundations in probability and statistics.
Strong sense of intellectual curiosity, humility, drive and teamwork, as well as communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
PhD studies or post-doctoral research in computer science, physics, machine learning, or other another quantitative field. If you are a PhD student, we require that you are on track to graduate by the summer of 2027.
Experience building models and conducting statistical or quantitative research.
Experience building ML tooling or solving real‑world ML engineering problems in industry (e.g., data pipelines, evaluation frameworks, training/serving), such as through prior internships.

Internship Details

About the Role
The ACLU seeks a Summer Undergraduate Intern in the National Prison Project of the ACLU's National office in Washington D.C. This position may be remote or hybrid.
Qualifying applicants must currently be matriculated undergraduate students and must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
The Team:
The National Prison Project works to ensure that conditions in prisons, jails, juvenile detention centers, and immigration detention facilities comply with the Constitution, domestic law, and international human rights principles. The Project has successfully litigated on behalf of incarcerated people in more than 25 states. It is the only organization litigating conditions of confinement cases nationwide. Our priorities include reducing overcrowding, improving health care, challenging the use of solitary confinement, and increasing oversight and accountability in prisons, jails, and other places of detention. We also work to reverse the policies that have given the United States the highest incarceration rate in the world and led to extreme over-representation of people of color in the incarcerated population.
What You'll Do:
The intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working with the National Prison Project team. They will learn about creating change through prison reform litigation and advocacy work.

Assisting with the production and distribution of advocacy materials
Conducting factual research and writing regarding the rights of incarcerated people and legislative movement

Internship Logistics
Location: Our internship program offers a limited number of remote or hybrid intern positions. This internship can be remote or hybrid and based in our Washington D.C. office.
