The Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the steam and chiller plant during assigned shifts, including emergency situations. This role requires hands-on experience with high-capacity boilers, water-conditioning systems, and plant equipment. The Engineer will perform routine monitoring, troubleshooting, documentation, and support maintenance activities to ensure optimal plant performance across assigned locations.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and monitor the steam plant during assigned shift and respond appropriately during emergency conditions.
Ensure safe, effective, and reliable operation of all plant systems.
Regenerate and recharge water-conditioning equipment; adjust chemical treatment for boiler water, chilled water, and condensing tower water.
Maintain detailed daily logs documenting equipment status, system readings, and shift activities; communicate all conditions to the incoming shift.
Assist with inventory control, equipment rotation, preventive maintenance schedules, and repairs.
Troubleshoot steam and chiller plant systems, identifying and correcting system issues.
Participate in monthly emergency generator testing.
Collaborate with Boiler Mechanics and facility staff to ensure safe and efficient steam/chiller plant operations.
May be assigned to support multiple locations as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required & Preferred Certifications
Preferred:
Third Class Stationary Engineer License (CCE), or
High-Pressure Boiler Operator License through the Ohio Department of Commerce.
Minimum 2 years operating high-capacity boilers (over 30 HP) and steam/chiller plant equipment.
Internship experience may substitute
with an active Third-Class Stationary Engineer License or High-Pressure Boiler Operator License.
Military backgrounds such as Machinist's Mate (MM) or Electric Power Production (3E0X2) strongly considered.
Knowledge of combustion controls, water chemistry, and water-conditioning systems required.
Experience operating steam turbines preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to move or transport items, carts, and equipment 100 lbs or more.
Capable of inspecting, installing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical systems and equipment.
Ability to distinguish colors for equipment and system monitoring.

What you will do:
Set-up and operate machines, load/unload parts, and communicate changes and results (in writing and verbally) while adhering to a strict time schedule
Inspect and verifies conformance of finished workpiece to customer specifications, using precision measuring tools and equipment as necessary (micrometers, calipers, gauges (pin, thread, indicator, height), optical comparators and coordinate measuring machines (CMM)
Good mechanical aptitude and some "shop math" is required. Ability to add and subtract decimals
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
Exceptional time management and or organization skills
Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required
Previous machining experience preferred but not required
Have basic mechanical aptitude
Manufacturing experience preferred but not required

Dormitory Parents are the heart of daily life at ORCA. Working in direct support of the Executive Director, Dormitory Parents provide a safe, structured, and nurturing home environment for students. They model Christian living, guide boys toward respectful and responsible behavior, oversee meals and house and farm chores, and ensure the dorm operates smoothly. Key Responsibilities
· In a mature and Christ-like way, model and teach biblical principles of respect, responsibility, and faith at all levels
· Supervise and guide the daily life of students in the dormitory
· Oversee student routines including meals, hygiene, chores, study hall, and recreation
· Provide instruction and accountability for farm chores and grounds care
· Prepare nutritious meals, plan menus, and oversee food inventory
· Ensure health, safety, and discipline consistent with ORCA's policies
· Support students at church, school functions, and community activities
