* Interprets drawings and sketches, plans details of working procedure for tool and material requirements.
* Selects materials according to suitability for job engineering standards.
* Makes layout for structural members, plate work, pressure vessels, and miscellaneous fabrication.
* Uses straightedges, trammels, dividers, squares, tapes, shop formulae and elementary geometry to locate lines, centers, angles, bends and radii, make allowances for shrinkage, expansion, load and stress as identified by design engineer.
* Makes field sketches and measurements on repair and construction jobs.
