In his 1989 book Postmodernism, or the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism, Fredric Jameson famously described the decentering, highly fragmented experience of trying to enter (there is no one central entrance, but many, high and low) and navigate the Bonaventure.
The atrium alone is reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey: Endless confusing corridors, entryways and stairs lead up and around the first six floors, which other businesses (a brewery, luggage stores, a nail salon, a liquor/general store, hotel gym, spa, gift shop and a variety of eateries).
The company acquired the 23-acre property in January 2012 for an undisclosed sum.
In September 2012, Hospitality Investing brought in Houston-based Benchmark Hospitality to manage the resort after changing it from a Hyatt to the Bonaventure.
When Christopher Nolan wanted a futuristic science lab for his 2014 film Interstellar, he chose the Bonaventure and barely had to change anything to make it look as if it belonged in the late 21st century.
"As of May 9, 2015, the Bonaventure Resort and Spa will be under new management," Allen M. Levine, chair of the business litigation group at Fort Lauderdale law firm Becker & Poliakoff, said in an emailed statement. "The new management team will run the operation in an uninterrupted manner."
