Pros of working at BookNook

The pros of working at BookNook are flexibility with work schedule, curriculum already provided so I didn’t have to spend a lot of time prepping for the lesson, great training with onboarding and workshops, online community, and opportunities for growth. Pay is pretty good.

Cons of working at BookNook

Cons of working at BookNook are that there aren’t always enough students to go around and it’s difficult to have enough income so you need to have more than one job, sometimes students aren’t very respectful, and BookNook no longer contracts with California teachers so if you were hired as a teacher who resides in California of another state they decide to drop you no longer have a job, and you are cut loose without much notice. At least they pay you for the two days you would have taught.

BookNook benefits

Being able to teach students online is my favorite perk, since I love teaching, but since that is the actual job, I also enjoyed being able to attend workshops and learn from other teachers in their online platform as a favorite perk. But once you can no longer contract with BookNook you are immediately cutoff and can no longer get on the platform so if you didn’t save your coworkers info you can’t get ahold of them that way and have to look them up through Facebook or some other platform.

What do you like best about BookNook's CEO and the leadership team?

The CEO and leadership team show a presence in the social community and offer workshops and other types of teacher support and growth. They also are visual on Linked In.

How would you improve BookNook's culture?

I wouldn’t stop contracting with California teachers. It’s very discriminatory especially since their main office is located in Oakland, California.

How did you prepare for the BookNook interview?

I read about BookNook online, studied their interview process, wrote practice questions and answers, videotaped myself having pretend interviews, and practiced asking and answering questions, and set up my online environment to look more professional.

How does your compensation at BookNook compare to the industry average?

In my experience compensation at BookNook is good compared to the industry average if you can book the amount of classes you need to make the income you want.

What's the diversity at BookNook like?

There is a fair representation of diverse demographics but they have stopped contracting with a whole state of teachers (California) so they are discriminating against a whole cohort of teachers with diverse backgrounds.

What brings you the most joy at BookNook?

The most fulfilling aspect of work at BookNook is when students showed up ready to learn and participated and mostly enjoyed being there.

Pros of working at BookNook

Most tutors are drawn to the flexibility of hours, ability to work from home, and potential for helping children

Cons of working at BookNook

BookNook has massively overhired tutors and has been losing clients, so there's little to no work this school year. Most tutors aren't working at all.

BookNook benefits

There are no benefits to working for a company that has no work. Management has made a complete mess of things and the outlook for BookNook's future is bleak.
