Job Tasks Descriptions 1. Report at required times and maintain assigned scheduled times with an emphasis on safety. 2. Operate, inspect, and report defects of transportation vehicles in all weather and road conditions. 3. Provide support for students with disabilities, including, but not limited to the proper use of transportation equipment, attend to hygienic needs and behavioral challenges, monitor medical conditions and utilize specialized communication tools. 4. Communicate with district representatives, parents/guardians and community members. 5. Maintain assigned vehicle cleanliness and route guides. 6. Be familiar with, adhere to and enforce all regulations, policies and procedures for school bus operation and student transportation safety and conduct including use of student monitoring technology. 7. Monitor and manage behavior of all riders using management strategies and student discipline while monitoring for suspected child abuse, harassment, bullying and medical conditions. 8. Identify and respond to emergency situations on the bus which may include the administration of standard First Aid, body fluid clean-up and evacuation procedures. 9. Accept responsibility for the safe transportation of students and assure they are all accounted for after each run, route or trip including use of student monitoring technology. 10. Complete and submit mandatory paperwork to the Transportation Director. 11. Provide input to dispatch, routing and supervisors concerning the effectiveness and accuracy of assigned routes in respect to design, student stops, safety issues, time and student information. 12. Maintain professional communication and demeanor with all district employees, students and community members while being responsible for a safe and collaborative environment on the bus and maintaining a positive work environment. 13. Communicate on a two-way radio system in accordance with Federal Communications Commission regulations. 14. Successfully complete all required courses, evaluations, and meetings. 15. Collaborate in the planning of bus evacuation plans and student management techniques on assigned routes. 16. Report any bus accidents immediately, and stay on scene until released by the Transportation Director. 17. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications, Certifications and Experience Pre-Employment Certifications (Responsibility of the EMPLOYEE to earn and maintain; cost of certification and time spent on the certification are not covered by the employer) Current Lifeguard certification (American Red Cross preferred, Others as approved by CE Aquatic Coordinator - must convert to ARC within 1 year of hire date) Current First Aid and CPR-PR Certification (American Red Cross preferred, Others as approved by CE Aquatic Coordinator - must convert to ARC within 1 year of hire date) Certifications Obtainable upon Employment (Complete within 2 weeks of hire and prior to first scheduled shift; cost of certification and time spent on the certification are covered by the employer) Trainings required by the Johnston Community School District Trainings required by Community Education Experience Must be at least 16 years old ARC Water Safety instructor (WSI) certification preferred Performance Criteria Professional Ensure the safety of all patrons in and around the pool Know and enforce pool rules and regulations Understand and execute pool emergency procedure Inspect facilities for cleanliness and safety, take action as necessary Complete all necessary preventative and regular maintenance, counts, pool checks as assigned Ensure that safety equipment is present and at each guard station Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer basic first aid when necessary to stabilize victim until emergency medical service can respond Attend all assigned meetings and in-services Perform other such duties and function as are necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position Personal Johnston Community Education employees are expected to: Contribute to creating a positive work environment by being engaged and serving as a positive role model/representative of the department/district. Control their setting as needed to ensure quality program implementation. Focus on their environment, anticipating and understanding protocol in regards to safety of participants. Provide instruction/leadership/management of program implementation related to specific job responsibilities. Perform light to moderate manual labor to assist with implementation of program. Demonstrate ability to grasp and adjust to new and changing situations. General Work location will be assigned as needed Work days/hours may vary depending upon program needs Primary location is Johnston Community School District facilities and program-specific Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or higher-level leadership Performance evaluation conducted by direct supervisor
