Duties
During the course of their careers, Secret Service Police carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Must be at least 21 years old at the time of application and under 40 at referral. Exceptions may apply for those with current or prior service in federal law enforcement positions covered by special retirement provisions. The Secret Service has determined that age is essential to the performance of this position.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.
Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM and 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Detention Deputy, an entry level position, must manage, regulate and proactively supervise inmate behavior by assessing inmate risk and needs, meet inmate basic needs, define and convey expectations for inmate behavior, and proactively supervise inmate activities to productively influence how they spend their time. This individual must ensure that all duties are performed according to county policy and procedures and in accordance with federal and state laws. Detention Officer works under the direction of the Detention Center Corporal and is responsible for receiving and dispatching routine information and processing and care of detainees
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts daily inspection and maintenance of housing units and facility to ensure proper security.
Performs security and direct supervision duties within inmate housing units to maintain custody and control the activities of inmates; remains constantly alert for prisoner disruptions such as escape planning, fighting, thefts, suicide attempts, and other prohibited activity.
Maintains a complete and accurate count of all inmates and their locations within the facility; conducts updated count of inmates and unit checks periodically throughout shift.
Orients inmates to housing units ensuring all inmates understand facility rules.
Maintains schedules for inmates allowing exercise times, meals, showering, class attendance, medical visits, unit cleaning, laundry exchange, mail delivery, and visitation at appropriate times; documents inmates; activities and movements within the facility.
Conducts surveillance, unit searches and shakedowns to locate and confiscate any fabricated weapons and contraband; inspects and inventories all cleaning products, tools, equipment, bedding, clothing, and medical equipment.
Prepares written incident reports documenting rule violations, offenses, or unusual events; testifies at disciplinary hearings and in court as needed.
Completes daily and weekly jail reports, inmate activity reports, incident reports, court lists, and correspondence with the courts; inputs information into computer system.
Responds to emergencies such as fights, hostage incidents, riots, and incidents involving aggressive and combative inmates; uses force in restraining inmates as needed.
Provides security for medical staff during distribution of medicine and physical examinations.
Receives and searches incoming inmates; reviews admission forms for completeness and accuracy before booking inmates; completes paperwork for admittance and enters inmate information into computer; fingerprints and photographs inmates; transmits fingerprints to other law enforcement agencies.
Performs required screenings, collection and inventory of property; ensures inmates are showered, dressed in issued clothing, and given unit supplies and identification badges.
Monitors facility operation within the central control room by the operation of technical equipment such as cameras, door lock controls, etc.
Supervises meal delivery and tray return; ensures inmates with special menus received correct tray; notes inmates refusing meals.
Ensures inmates with required court appearances are scheduled for transport.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The physical test is a way to test speed, strength, and agility. The test will be explained to all applicants prior to the start of the test along with a short demonstration video along with a live demonstration by an officer. The physical test must be completed in the specified time of two minutes and six seconds (2:06). The applicant will be allowed a second opportunity to pass the physical test in the allotted time. Applicants are encouraged to train via cardio and strength exercises in preparation for the test.
The next stage is a video based exam that tests candidates' abilities in situational judgment and human relations as well as reading and writing skills. After the video based exam will be the polygraph test. For candidates that pass the polygraph test, the next step will be an interview conducted by a board consisting of Jonesboro Police Department officers.
After the interview, a hire list will be generated that will be good for one year. Once a candidate is given a conditional offer of employment, they must pass a psychological evaluation, physical examination, and a drug screen.

* Perform background investigations; meet with applicants to give them forms, review forms, conduct home visits, send and receive reference letters, and compile information.
* Perform applicant interviews; arrange and prepare for interviews, oversee interview process, and calculate results.

Court Bailiff Duties (when assigned):
* Ensure the judge is properly announced and provide security throughout the court session to safeguard the judge and maintain courtroom order, assisting Building Security personnel as needed.
* Prepare court room for arraignments, trials, small claims, and civil court. Distribute and collect paperwork from defendants in court.
* As requested by the judge or prosecutor's office, make arraignments for prisoners to be brought to court before trial court dates; take individuals into custody as ordered by the judge.
* Review the court docket on a daily basis and verify any active warrants through the Tyler system. Ensure warrant is properly served if a defendant with an outstanding warrant appears in court.
* After court, review the court docket to identify any defendants who missed their appearance due to being in custody at a detention center. Promptly notify the appropriate contact to schedule a video arraignment.
* Coordinate with the Washington County and the Benton County Detention Centers to identify incarcerated defendants with upcoming court dates. Promptly notify the appropriate contact to schedule a video arraignment. Serve warrants on incarcerated individuals and cite incarcerated individuals who are behind on court fees. Serve walk-in warrants when available.
* Compile a monthly calendar of court dates for the Springdale Court and distribute it via email to all relevant parties.
Minimum Qualifications
* High school diploma or GED plus specialized training and/or additional college courses and 19-23 months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* For Field Training Officer: 3 years of related experience and/or training and a minimum of 2-6 months of management experience.
* Must possess a valid Arkansas Driver's License.
* Must be able to obtain a Basic State Law Enforcement Training Certification, BAC Datamaster-Operator, Radar, SFST, Driving Course, Defensive Tactics, Firearms course.
* ACIC Level I or CJIS Certification.
* For Field Training Officer: Instructor Development and Field Training Certification.
* Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer, standard office equipment, firearms, basic and specialized law enforcement equipment.
* Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects.
* Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff.
* Must maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.
* Ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision.
* Must possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, often under adverse conditions.
* Possess good judgment, good powers of observation and memory.
* Ability to learn and perform technical processes to ensure workflow within the department.
