Base Salary: GL-9/GS-11 $63,148 - $120,145 per year
Locality Pay: Varies by duty location.
Overtime Pay: Up to 25%
Duty location impacts pay rates; locality pay for federal law enforcement is higher in some locations than others. A fully trained BPA may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression from GL-9 to GS-11 to GS-12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in the lower grade level.
All Border Patrol Agents may select from an array of federal employment benefits that include health and insurance plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan that is similar to traditional and ROTH 401(k) offerings. *Recruitment Incentive* Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents (as defined in 5 CFR 575.102) will be offered up to a $20,000 incentive. Duties and Responsibilities:
As a BPA, you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity. Being a BPA makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession.
Typical assignments include:
· Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
· Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers of aliens at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions to include using infrared scopes during night operations.
· Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.
· Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
· Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles for the accomplishment of the USBP Mission.
Qualifications:
GL-9: You qualify for the GL-9 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
· Performing physical searches of detained individuals, their vehicles, and their immediate surroundings for weapons, contraband, currency, and other evidence.
· Apprehending, physically restraining, or working with law enforcement officials to identify or apprehend violators of state, federal, or immigration laws.
· Proficient in the use of firearms, preparing investigative reports, serving court orders (e.g., warrants, subpoenas, etc.), and gathering evidence for criminal cases prosecuted through the court system.
If you have previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience, you may qualify at the GS-11 grade level.
GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, with the authority granted by the state or government to enforce laws, make arrests, and investigate crimes, performing primary duties in an official law enforcement capacity such as:
· Utilizing intelligence information to track illegal operations, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or contraband while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
· Leading investigations of fraud, contraband, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or illegal operations to determine sources and patterns while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
· Apprehending violators of state, federal, or immigration laws by utilizing various forms of complex technology that include surveillance, detection, situation awareness systems, and/or communications equipment.
The above experience will be applied in connection with the following: Make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; deal effectively with people in a courteous manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions; or develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.
There are no education substitutions for the GL-9 or GS-11 grade-level Border Patrol Agent opportunities.

Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.
Residency: You must have had primary U.S. residency (including protectorates as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
Age Restriction: In accordance with Public Law 100-238, this position is covered under law enforcement retirement provisions. Candidates must be referred for selection to the Border Patrol Agent position before reaching their 40th birthday in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Directive 251-03. The age restriction may not apply if you are currently serving or have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement (non-military) position covered by Title 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) or Title 5 U.S.C. 8412(d).

Formal Training: After you are hired, you will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six (6) months of intensive instruction in immigration and nationality laws, law enforcement, and USBP-specific operations, driver training, physical techniques, firearms, and other courses. Border Patrol work requires the ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English. Border Patrol Agents will be provided training to become proficient in the Spanish language at the Academy.

Marine Patrol Deputy

Testing for this position is required. The POST test will be offered on Thursday, January 15th, 2026, at 9:00am. Performs law enforcement and crime prevention activities relating to state and local marine and criminal laws and ordinances including arrest, transport of adults in custody, investigate crimes and criminal complaints, and prepare necessary reports. Work is regularly reviewed by a full-time deputy, sergeant or other management staff in the Sheriff's Office for conformance to laws and departmental policies and procedures.
* We are looking to hire 1-2 full time seasonal employees (40 hour per week) May-September 2026 and 1-2 part time seasonal employee to work weekends (20 hours per week).
* This position is an on-call position with a maximum of 1040 hours per year. Hours will be available on an irregular, fluctuating basis.
* Workdays will typically be between Thursday through Sunday with the ability to take one to two weekends off during the summer. All seasonal positions will be expected to work or be available on the major weekends and holidays during the summer.

TYPICAL TASKS
Deputy Sheriffs are sworn peace officers responsible for law enforcement, community service and general investigative work.
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
* Patrols County roads, highways, business and residential areas; enforces traffic and criminal codes; patrols rivers and lakes in patrol boat enforcing water safety; checks property security; investigates road and safety hazards; operates related police equipment including patrol vehicles, electronic equipment and firearms.

Lateral Deputies complete a 17-week in-house field-training program with daily evaluations. Lateral Deputies serve a one year probationary period.

Considerable knowledge of: State and County criminal and traffic laws; police methods and procedures; laws governing arrest, search and seizure, criminal justice system, including courtroom testimony; police investigative procedures and techniques.

Must be able to be certified as a police officer by the Department of Public Safety and Standards Training (DPSST).
Visual Acuity: Monocular vision must be at least 20/30 (Snellen) corrected in each eye and not worse than 20/100 (Snellen) uncorrected in either eye. Binocular vision must be at least 20/20 (Snellen) corrected. Officers/Applicants whose uncorrected vision is worse than 20/100 must wear soft contact lenses to meet the corrected vision requirement.
Color Vision: Officers/Applicants must be able to distinguish red, green, blue, and yellow, as determined by the HRR Test, 4th Edition. Red or green deficiencies may be acceptable, providing the applicant can read at least nine of the first 13 plates of the Ishihara Test. Officers/Applicants who fail to meet the color vision standard may meet this standard by demonstrating they can correctly discriminate colors via a field test conducted by the employer as approved by the examining physician/surgeon. Depth Perception: Random Stereo Test equal to 60 seconds of arc or better. Peripheral Vision: Visual Field Performance must be 140 degrees in the horizontal meridian combined.
Hearing Acuity: Officer/Applicants must have no average hearing loss greater than 25 (db) at the 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000-Hertz levels in either ear with no single loss in excess of 40 db. Amplification devices may be used to meet the above hearing requirement.
WORK SCHEDULE
Patrol Division: Four (4) day work week, ten (10) hour a day basis (POA contract language cites exceptions to this schedule.) Shift schedules are determined by seniority and the Peace Officer's Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.

TESTING AND SELECTION PROCESS
STEP 1: Pass/Fail Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications and be certified as a basic police officer for at least eighteen (18) months within the last five (5) years.
STEP 2: Department ("in house") interview
Candidates who successfully pass the minimum qualification screening of step 1 will be invited to a department interview.
STEP 3: Statement of Personal History, testing (or proof of degree) and other post-offer tests
Those who complete the department interview and are selected to move forward to a background investigation will also be required to complete a thorough Statement of Personal History (SPH) via our online eSOPH system. A deadline will be given at the time you are referred. This is a time intensive document to complete, do not delay in completing this document.
Additionally, applicants that are not Oregon DPSST certified must take the Frontline written/video test UNLESS possessing proof of a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution (proof will be required). We strongly encourage candidates to also complete the Work Attitude Questionnaire and Public Safety Suitability Assessment tests requested by NTN, but the Sheriff's Office does not use it in the testing evaluation at this time. Testing for Frontline is available through the National Testing Network (NTN) and can be completed online at home as well as several locations in and out of the state.
There is no ORPAT test required at this time.

Candidates do not have to wait to be notified to complete the tests. However, only those applicants that move forward to a background investigation will have their scores accepted to continue in the process.

If a conditional offer is made, candidates must also pass a post-offer job-related physical and psychological evaluations and drug testing for the use of prohibited drugs.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION:
At any time during the application process applicants may have their background packet activated and assigned to a background investigator. PLEASE NOTE: When the Sheriff's Office directs, a background investigator will contact applicants to schedule an INITIAL INTERVIEW. The INITIAL INTERVIEW will include a meeting with a background investigator to have your photo taken, review the SPH and provide instructions on what documents need to be ordered.

Recruit Police Officers receive a beginning annual salary of $78,187.20 annually; with experience, education, and training officers can advance to the top step of $99,673.60* annually. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) OHSU Police Officer is responsible for the safety and security of the OHSU community, including all OHSU members, patients, and visitors, as well as all OHSU resources, facilities, and property within the Officer's assigned area(s) of responsibility. The OHSU Police Officer may carry out these duties under the direct supervision of the shift Operations Lieutenant, shift Sergeant, or other DPS management, but will also be capable of effectively carrying out these responsibilities with minimal or no direct supervision, when necessary.

Ensure a safe environment for the entire OHSU community by responding to and/or investigating the following:
Calls for assistance, reported or observed crimes, alarm activations, fires, hazardous materials, and other situations as appropriate, when dispatched, or when directed by a supervisor.
Observe conditions that could negatively impact the University's operations, including environmental hazards, maintenance problems, unsafe conditions, etc.
Take all reasonable actions to prevent injury, damage, or loss due to emergency or other situations until the appropriate responders arrive.
Act within the scope of his/her training and experience and call for assistance when confronted with situations beyond his/her training, experience, knowledge, or authority.
Show self-motivation and initiative in handling and dealing with emerging safety and security problems, including taking proactive actions to prevent problems whenever possible.
Protect the scene and evidence related to any actual or potential crime, injury, or significant violation of OHSU policy.
Perform proactive security checks of OHSU facilities, parking areas, grounds, and access routes to OHSU facilities.
Respond to and monitor helicopter landings/takeoffs and emergency responders as required.
Assist with uncooperative, disruptive, and/or dangerous persons as requested by staff or appropriate to the situation, including assisting with restraints, seclusion, and administration of medical care as directed by medical staff.
Respond to medical emergencies and campus injuries, render immediate first aid according to training and skills, and request appropriate assistance.
Be available for recall at any time to assist in any emergency that may be critical to the full-time operations of OHSU or in relief of other DPS staff.
Prepare timely, complete, accurate reports as appropriate and in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, accepted practices, and requests from DPS management and/or law enforcement.
Observe, stop, detain, question, arrest, search, and/or transport persons suspected of criminal activity, and/or investigate suspected criminal activity related to OHSU, in accordance with applicable state law and OHSU guidelines.

Actively patrol/monitor area(s) of responsibility on foot, bicycle, in a vehicle, or via CCTV/DVMRE. Patrol/monitoring areas may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Issue citations as necessary and authorized to persons or vehicles for violations of University policies or applicable laws.

Assisting motorists with jump starts, emergency fuel, lost or stolen vehicles, vehicle accidents, etc.
Assisting persons needing information about OHSU facilities, parking, access, directions, etc. Provides bilingual and cultural relevant support as need by customers.
Providing security assessments for facilities or personal safety concerns.
Escorting persons with specific safety concerns and/or as requested and appropriate.
Locking/Unlocking facilities upon authorized request or according to DPS procedure and practices.
Answering general information questions from the public, staff, or students concerning security regulations, building locations and campus activities.
Provide helpful community relations, customer service, and pro-active reporting functions with the DPS staff and customers throughout OHSU, including, but not limited to, the following:
Inform the appropriate department(s) of any problems noticed, changes in conditions, possible/actual interruptions of services, unsafe conditions, and any potential/actual unsafe condition.
Actively develop strong, productive working relationships with key individuals in all areas of the University by initiating non-crisis contacts whenever possible.

10. Prepares all forms and reports necessary to file felony and/or misdemeanor charges. Prepares criminal cases for prosecution with either the City or County Prosecutor. Interacts with prosecutors, attorneys, and court officials; testifies in court as required.
11. Performs community liaison activities; educates the public about crime prevention. Provides general information on laws and ordinances; explains process of filing a formal complaint, the extent of police patrols, and alternatives available to citizens. Directs citizens to appropriate authorities as necessary.
12. Serves and enforces civil processes issued by the courts to include restraining orders, orders for protection, no contact orders, anti-harassment orders, and subpoenas. Serves arrest and search warrants.

AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS
The following standards have been adopted by the Hillsboro Police Department as AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS from a police department hiring process.
Additional information related to the items listed below or otherwise discovered through subsequent investigation may also disqualify a candidate.
1. Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Ability to possess a valid Oregon Driver's License. Ability to drive safely. Ability
to control a motor vehicle at high speeds. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in all
types of weather conditions.
A. Receipt of two or more moving violations within three years prior to application
may be disqualifying depending on the nature of the violations. A moving
violation for which there is a factual finding of innocence shall not be included.
B. Involvement as a driver in two or more chargeable collisions within three
years prior to date of application shall be disqualifying.
C. Conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs within three
years prior to application shall be disqualifying.
D. Suspension of a driver's license once within the past three years shall be
disqualifying.
2. Integrity
Refusing to yield to temptation of bribes, gratuities, payoff, etc. Refusing to tolerate
unethical or illegal conduct on the part of other law enforcement personnel. Showing
strong moral character and integrity in dealing with the public. Being honest in

A. Any material misstatement of fact or significant admission or omission during
the application or background process shall be disqualifying.
3. Credibility as a Witness in a Court of Law
Ability to give testimony in a court of law without being subject to impeachment due
to his/her character for honesty or veracity or due to prior felony conviction.
A. Conviction of two or more misdemeanor offenses under Oregon Law as an
adult shall be disqualifying.
B. Conviction of any offense classified as a misdemeanor under Oregon Law while
employed as a Police Officer shall be disqualifying.
C. Commission of any act while employed as a Police Officer involving
untruthfulness, falsification of any official report or document, or theft shall be
disqualifying.
D. All male U.S. citizens and male aliens born after 1960 and residing in the United
States who are 18 through 25 years of age are REQUIRED to register with the
Selective Service. Failure to have registered is an automatic disqualifier.
4. Dependability
A. Missing any scheduled appointment during the hiring process without prior
permission shall be disqualifying.
B. Having been disciplined by any employer as an adult for abuse of leave, gross
insubordination, dereliction of duty or persistent failure to follow established

Qualifications
A strong track record of attendance and being on time for work. A reputation for being someone who can be counted on to not miss shifts.
There is a residence requirement to facilitate officers reporting to work in a reliable and dependable manner. Generally, officers must live in Zone 6 of the Columbia River, i.e. in between McNary Dam (near Umatilla) and the Bonneville Dam, and no more than 15 miles south of Highway 84 (OR) or Highway 14 (WA). Trainees may live outside this area but once training is complete, they must follow the full residence requirement.

This job requires driving a CRITFC police vehicle and therefore you must be able to meet the terms of the CRITFC Motor Vehicle policy. Working Conditions
This is a physically challenging job. Officers conduct patrols by vehicle, foot, or boat. They must be able to lift and pull fishing gear in all weather conditions. Occasionally, long hours of surveillance are required. Officers are required to qualify for and carry firearms, conducted energy devices (i.e. Taser), capsicum (i.e. pepper spray), and a baton. They must be prepared to handle physical, verbal, and potentially dangerous confrontations. Officers must have availability to work rotating shifts (days, swings, and nights) to ensure patrol coverage 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Some holiday work will be required. Approximately twice per month, some overtime work will be required due to writing reports, processing evidence/property, conducting surveillance, preparing cases, or appearing in court.
Work Schedule : 4×10 shifts, Sunday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Sunday. All officers rotate day, swing, and night shifts every two months.
