Duty location impacts pay rates; locality pay for federal law enforcement is higher in some locations than others. A fully trained BPA may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression from GL-9 to GS-11 to GS-12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in the lower grade level.
All Border Patrol Agents may select from an array of federal employment benefits that include health and insurance plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan that is similar to traditional and ROTH 401(k) offerings. *Recruitment Incentive* Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents (as defined in 5 CFR 575.102) will be offered up to a $20,000 incentive. Duties and Responsibilities:
As a BPA, you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity. Being a BPA makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession.
Typical assignments include:
· Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
· Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers of aliens at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions to include using infrared scopes during night operations.
· Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.
· Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
· Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles for the accomplishment of the USBP Mission.
Qualifications:
GL-9: You qualify for the GL-9 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
· Performing physical searches of detained individuals, their vehicles, and their immediate surroundings for weapons, contraband, currency, and other evidence.
· Apprehending, physically restraining, or working with law enforcement officials to identify or apprehend violators of state, federal, or immigration laws.
· Proficient in the use of firearms, preparing investigative reports, serving court orders (e.g., warrants, subpoenas, etc.), and gathering evidence for criminal cases prosecuted through the court system.
If you have previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience, you may qualify at the GS-11 grade level.
GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, with the authority granted by the state or government to enforce laws, make arrests, and investigate crimes, performing primary duties in an official law enforcement capacity such as:
· Utilizing intelligence information to track illegal operations, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or contraband while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
· Leading investigations of fraud, contraband, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or illegal operations to determine sources and patterns while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
· Apprehending violators of state, federal, or immigration laws by utilizing various forms of complex technology that include surveillance, detection, situation awareness systems, and/or communications equipment.
The above experience will be applied in connection with the following: Make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; deal effectively with people in a courteous manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions; or develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.
There are no education substitutions for the GL-9 or GS-11 grade-level Border Patrol Agent opportunities.

Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.
Residency: You must have had primary U.S. residency (including protectorates as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
Age Restriction: In accordance with Public Law 100-238, this position is covered under law enforcement retirement provisions. Candidates must be referred for selection to the Border Patrol Agent position before reaching their 40th birthday in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Directive 251-03. The age restriction may not apply if you are currently serving or have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement (non-military) position covered by Title 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) or Title 5 U.S.C. 8412(d).
Veterans' Preference: You may also be eligible for an excepted service Veterans' Recruitment Appointment (VRA). The age restriction does not apply if you are Veterans' Preference eligible.
Formal Training: After you are hired, you will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six (6) months of intensive instruction in immigration and nationality laws, law enforcement, and USBP-specific operations, driver training, physical techniques, firearms, and other courses. Border Patrol work requires the ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English. Border Patrol Agents will be provided training to become proficient in the Spanish language at the Academy.

Lateral Transfer Benefits

LATERAL TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Employed as a full time and active law enforcement officer within the United States.
2. Must be continuously employed full-time for two years (excluding military service).
3. Must be a citizen of the United States and at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
4. High School Diploma or GED and sixty (60) fully accredited college level credits within five (5) full years of their date of initial law enforcement certification by the State of WI.
5. Must be of high moral character and free of any felony, serious misdemeanor or domestic abuse conviction.
6. The City of Racine has no residency requirements for employees.
7. Successful completion of ALL stages of the hiring process as defined by the City of Racine Police and Fire Commission.
8. Successful completion of the Wisconsin Physical Readiness Test if not successfully completed within the past 18 months.
9. Out-of-State certified officers are required to successfully complete the Wisconsin Reciprocity Exam prior to the Police and Fire Commission Interviews.
10. For out of state lateral applicants, successful completion of the State of Wisconsin designated testing in lieu of attending a Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer Training Academy. Failure to successfully complete the testing to receive a waiver from attendance at the law enforcement academy will disqualify the candidate for the Lateral Entry Program.

Conviction of a domestic violence related offense. Conviction of any of the following traffic offenses within the past three years: operating while intoxicated, hit and run, and license revocation related offenses.

Climbing ladders, jumping fences, grappling with suspects, running for long distances, and moving from extended sitting to quick activity.

LATERAL ENTRY COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
1. Starting salary consistent with years of experience (rounded down to a whole number) in the Association contract. Example: An officer with 3 years and 4 months of service lateralling would receive a starting wage of an Association member with 3 years' experience.
2. Vacation time consistent with years of experience (rounded down to a whole number) in the Association contract. Example: An officer with 7 years and 11 months of service lateralling would receive earned vacation pay of an Association member with 7 years' experience (15 days).
3. The field training program may include great flexibility in accordance with the lateral officer's ability to adjust to the new program.

Work Schedule

* Retirement pension calculated by multiplying 2.5% for each year of service by the “Final Average Salary,” capped at 75%.

Uniforms
The Village will issue uniforms to personnel assigned to the Police Department who are required to wear them. If an officer separates from the Police Department and does not complete his/her initial three-year period, the individual will be required to reimburse the Village for the cost of uniforms. Substantiation of having passed most recent law enforcement Field Training Program. If a Law Enforcement employer does not have a formal Field Training program, an official letter from the highest ranking member of the department (most commonly the Chief), stating the applicant has met the department's training requirements may be accepted. Selection Process
The selection process shall be so fashioned as to test fairly the capacity and fitness of the person examined to discharge the duties of the position of Police Officer. Job Description:
SUMMARY
This is a hybrid position with dual responsibilities as a Route Security Officer and Route Technician. The primary duties of this position include, but are not limited to, providing safety and security to employees and property, both internally and externally; surveying and assessing potential risks and threats; setting redemption loads for video gaming and redemption terminals, replenishing cassettes; maintaining and servicing video gaming and amusement equipment owned/operated by Accel Entertainment and located in contracted establishments; enforcing established rules and procedures intended to protect employees and customers; assisting law enforcement in the investigative process; recommending improvements for security operations to the Director of Security, as well as assisting in other areas as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide overwatch and physical security to collection teams

Preform a rapid site survey of the location the collection team is entering and make a rapid and accurate decision regarding safety concerns

Adhere to established SOP regarding redemption terminal loading and video gaming terminal collections process
Remain alert and always prepared, follow established safety and security protocols, and watch for the accidental mishandling of packages that might result in loss
Maintain continuous communication with security personnel while on route
Return all valuables handled throughout the daily scheduled route
Maintain all certifications, licenses, and training requirements
Respond to workplace violence incidents using appropriate levels of force

INTRODUCTION:

POSITION PURPOSE:
In accordance with Local Ordinances, State Statutes, Federal Law and established departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines, performs a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities that include an element of personal danger and exposure to adverse conditions. Duties are primarily service oriented and include dispensing information, arbitrating disputes, providing assistance through referrals, property protection, crime prevention and investigation, apprehending criminals, directing traffic, and other public safety services.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
* Maintain continuous preventative patrol in assigned area of the City, patrolling residential and/or business areas for detection of violators, initiating contacts with both business operators and residents, and maintaining open communications within the community.
* Respond immediately to calls for police service, attempt to resolve domestic disputes, disturbances and other incidents through counseling, referral or other peaceful means, settle disputes among neighbors, juveniles or other groups, and resolve any and all complaints from citizens of the community.
* Maintain the peace and security of the community, respond to public disturbances, and maintain civil obedience at group functions.
* Render miscellaneous police services such as providing information and/or assistance to the public, informing citizens of available services in the community, promoting crime prevention through community and educational programs, making presentations to public and local organizations concerning crime prevention and related police matters, locating and reporting fires and fire hazards, defective water or gas mains, sidewalk and highway defects or obstructions and defective street lights, and checking licenses and permits as necessary.
* Provide for the safe and convenient flow of traffic and pedestrians within the City, investigate traffic accidents and enforces traffic violations, conduct driver intoxication investigations, and promote vehicular and pedestrian safety.
* Conduct preliminary investigations of crimes, protect crime scenes, perform surveillance, and conduct follow-up investigations.
* Enforce laws and ordinances within assigned area of duty, make felony and misdemeanor arrests, and issue appearance notices and traffic citations.
* Complete and submit written reports, forms and other documents as required prior to going off-duty unless otherwise directed by a superior officer.
* Testify in criminal and civil court proceedings and give depositions.
* Maintain a consistent and reliable attendance.
ASSOCIATED DUTIES:
Perform other duties that are within the scope of responsibilities applicable to the level of work performed by employees in positions covered by this classification specification, as required by competent authority.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Valid Wisconsin Driver's License or eligible to be licensed in the State of Wisconsin

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION:
Weight must be proportionate to height, vision must be correctable to 20/20 in both eyes, with glasses or contact lenses, and must have acceptable sensory capabilities in hearing and olfactory senses.
Tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20 to 50 pounds) items and occasionally very heavy (100 pounds or over) items. Climbing ladders, jumping fences, grappling with suspects, running for long distances, and moving from extended sitting to quick activity.

A Police Officer assigned to Patrol operates under the direct supervision of the Patrol Commander and Patrol Sergeant. The Patrol Officer is sworn to enforce all laws and ordinances for which the Department is responsible; to protect the lives and property of all persons; and to maintain peace and order within the Village of Mundelein. Work Schedule
Normally, police officers work an average of eighty hours per two-week period, which amounts to 2,080 hours annually. Currently, the patrol division works 12-hour shifts, which are re-bid on an annual basis.
Direct Deposit
All employees hired after January 1, 1997, must participate in Village's direct deposit program.

Voluntary Retirement
- Police Department eligibility is age fifty (50) with twenty (20) years of service. Annual benefits equal to the product of final pay times the sum of 1) 50%; plus 2) 2.5% for each year of service in excess of 20 years, but less than 30 years. Maximum benefit is 75% of final pay after 30 years of service.
B.
Mandatory Retirement
- Mandatory retirement age is 65. Employee will be vested in retirement plan with a minimum of eight (8) years of service.

Final Pay
- Final pay is defined as the salary attached to the rank held upon separation from active service.
2. If you do not have previous Article 3 service (before 1/1/11) the following pension provisions apply:

Voluntary Retirement:
* Minimum Retirement Age 55 with a minimum of 10 years of service.
* Early Retirement Option at age 50 with a minimum of 10 years of service, but a reduction in annuity of 1/2 of 1% for each month under age 55 (6% per year).
* “Final Average Salary” (used to determine pension annuity) is based on an average salary based on the best 8 out of the last 10 years of service.
* Final Average Salary is capped at $130,166.37, increased annually by the lesser of 3% (of the salary amount) or 1/2 of the annual increase in the CPI-U. [2]
* Survivor benefits reduced to 66 2/3% of deceased employee's salary at time of death (subject to cost-of-living adjustments).
* Cost of living adjustments beginning the year after the retiree or survivor turns age 60 with annual increases of the lesser of 3% or ½ of the annual increase in the CPI-U.
* Retirement pension calculated by multiplying 2.5% for each year of service by the “Final Average Salary,” capped at 75%.

Uniforms
The Village will issue uniforms to personnel assigned to the Police Department who are required to wear them. If an officer separates from the Police Department and does not complete his/her initial three-year period, the individual will be required to reimburse the Village for the cost of uniforms.
