Essential Duties and Responsibilities Enforcement of both Pennsylvania and New Jersey motor vehicles, civil, criminal, local, state, federal and Authority policies, laws, ordinances, regulations, and guidelines. To patrol Authority property on foot or in a vehicle. Engage citizens for a lawful purpose, or to render assistance. Investigate and clear motor vehicle accidents from Authority property. Ensure removal of roadway debris, or obstacles. Engage in hazardous activity such as climbing bridges or tower structures, etc. to retrieve and secure potential suicide victims. Engage in a variety of miscellaneous assignments and unexpected emergencies as they arise. Strive to avoid engaging in negligent actions or conduct, which may cause criminal or civil liability, on behalf of the Authority. Effect an arrest, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints; subdues resisting suspects using maneuvers and weapons and resorts to the use of hands and feet and other approved weapons in self-defense. Prepare investigative and additional reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols, and mathematical computations. Gather information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informers. Pursue fleeing suspects and perform rescue operations which may involve quickly entering and exiting a law enforcement patrol vehicle. This position requires a good driving record and a valid driver's license from the state wherein he/she resides. Must possess the willingness and ability to follow instructions from supervisors. This position is required to successfully complete state and federal mandated programs and refresher courses and also required to participate in reoccurring in-service training programs as ordered by the Police Chief. Must attain a qualifying score on a firearms' course twice a year. Assists in maintaining a safe and secure work environment by participating in required training, recognizing, and reporting hazards and suspicious activity, and using all required personal protective equipment.
