Longevity

The Challenge
As a Police Officer your duties will typically include patrolling assigned areas; interacting with the public; conducting criminal investigations; enforcing laws; investigating collisions; preserving the peace and writing reports. In the Patrol Section you will work three 12 hour and 20-minute workdays and have four days off. If you are assigned to any other Section, you will work four 10-hour workdays with three days off. The Compensation
The Police Officer Lateral consists of seven salary steps and will be commensurate with experience.
To be considered as a candidate for Police Officer Lateral, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
Have satisfactorily completed a Field Training Program as a Peace Officer in the State of California.
Prior experience must have been with a full-service agency similar to Union City, including patrol experience within one year of the date of application is desired.
Be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
Be able to prove United States Citizenship.
Have no felony convictions.
15 semester units at any accredited college in the United States is desired.
Possess a valid California driver's license.
Successfully pass a background investigation.
Prior use of controlled substances may be grounds for disqualification.
Benefits
Medical/Dental/Vision: The City provides up to $2,125/month to purchase medical, dental and vision benefits. A retiree medical benefit is provided after 15 years of service (see POA MOU for details on benefits).
Retirement: CalPERS enrollment in either 3% @ 55(Classic Employees) or the new 2.7% @ 57(New Employees) formula is dependent on the individual's eligibility, as per AB 340. The City does not participate in Social Security therefore there are no Social Security tax deductions (except 1.45% Medicare).
Deferred Compensation Plan: A 457b Deferred Comp Plan and a ROTH IRA plan are available on a voluntary basis.
Leaves: Employees shall accrue 3.08 hours of vacation leave per pay period (80 hours per year). Initial accrual of 80 vacation hours per year increases progressively to 200 hours per year after 16 years of service. Employees shall accrue 3.69 hours of sick leave per pay period with no limit on accumulation.
Holidays: 79 Paid Holiday hours and 47 Holiday hours placed in a Holiday Time Bank.
Uniform Allowance: $1,250/annual uniform allowance paid over 26 pay periods.
Life Insurance: Premium is paid by the City. Life insurance and AD&D is equal to $100,000 coverage each. Additional voluntary supplemental life insurance is available.
Disability Insurance: Long-term disability insurance premium is paid by the City.
Bilingual Pay: Bilingual Pay with passing score on City's bilingual exam.
Other: 3/12 work schedule; Overtime paid at time and one half with option of pay or future time off; All necessary equipment is provided.

THE POSITION Deputy Sheriff Recruit is the entry-level law enforcement position for Alameda County. This classification exists solely for those attending the Sheriff's Office Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified Basic Academy.
The Deputy Sheriff Recruit is a classification characterized by assignment to a P.O.S.T. Certified Academy. These standards are confined to far vision and color vision. There are additional standards which may apply to other possible specific visual deficiencies.
Applicants must be in excellent physical condition with above-average strength, endurance, and agility and must meet California POST-approved safety member physical standards.

Applicants must complete the POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) or the National Testing Network (NTN) Frontline Test. The acceptable pass point for the POST PELLETB is 42. The acceptable pass point for the NTN Frontline Test is 60% Video, 85% Reading, and 80% Writing. Scores should be dated no more than one year ago. Valid PELLETB t-scores or NTN scores must be on the agency's letterhead and reflect the date of the test. In addition to the PELLETB or NTN, applicants must complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT). The acceptable pass point for the PAT is 220. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Benefits
1. Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas Day and New Year's Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days during spring break. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year's Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreement between the employee and supervisor. Position Summary
The University Police Department (UPD) is responsible for enforcement of all laws, apprehension of violators, maintenance of order, preservation of human life, protection, and safety services to the SF State community. The minimum passing score required is 320.
4. Oral Interview: Upon successful completion of the written and physical agility assessments, applicants will be scheduled for an oral interview. The interview is conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board who will evaluate candidates in job-related areas. Final Testing and Final Appointment
Applicants who pass the written, physical, and oral test will be placed on the continuous Deputy Sheriff-Recruit eligibility list for twelve months. Rank on the list is determined by the oral board test score and any veteran's credit for which individual competitors may qualify. Applicants' scores are grouped into Certification Bands. Scores between 83 to 100 are placed in Band A, scores between 77 to 82.99 are placed in Band B, and scores between 70-76.99 are placed in Band C. Candidates are moved on into the background process from the list. Typically, the Sheriff's Office administers three Basic Academies per year.
Veteran's Preference Credits
Veterans who have received an honorable discharge and disabled veterans may be allowed an additional 5% of their total earned score (providing the exam is otherwise successfully completed). To obtain this credit, veterans MUST provide a DD214 that indicates the applicant received an honorable discharge or proof of disability ATTACHED TO THEIR APPLICATION AT THE TIME OF FILING.
The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
CONVICTION HISTORY
During the background process, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Position Summary
The University Police Department (UPD) is responsible for enforcement of all laws, apprehension of violators, maintenance of order, preservation of human life, protection, and safety services to the SF State community. Knowledge and Abilities:
