Duty location impacts pay rates; locality pay for federal law enforcement is higher in some locations than others. A fully trained BPA may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression from GL-9 to GS-11 to GS-12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in the lower grade level.
All Border Patrol Agents may select from an array of federal employment benefits that include health and insurance plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan that is similar to traditional and ROTH 401(k) offerings. *Recruitment Incentive* Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents (as defined in 5 CFR 575.102) will be offered up to a $20,000 incentive. The first $10,000 will be paid upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 awarded for accepting a prioritized

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a BPA, you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity. Being a BPA makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession.
Typical assignments include:
· Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
· Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers of aliens at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions to include using infrared scopes during night operations.
· Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.
· Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
· Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles for the accomplishment of the USBP Mission.
Qualifications:
GL-9: You qualify for the GL-9 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
· Performing physical searches of detained individuals, their vehicles, and their immediate surroundings for weapons, contraband, currency, and other evidence.
· Apprehending, physically restraining, or working with law enforcement officials to identify or apprehend violators of state, federal, or immigration laws.
· Proficient in the use of firearms, preparing investigative reports, serving court orders (e.g., warrants, subpoenas, etc.), and gathering evidence for criminal cases prosecuted through the court system.
If you have previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience, you may qualify at the GS-11 grade level.
GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, with the authority granted by the state or government to enforce laws, make arrests, and investigate crimes, performing primary duties in an official law enforcement capacity such as:
· Utilizing intelligence information to track illegal operations, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or contraband while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
· Leading investigations of fraud, contraband, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or illegal operations to determine sources and patterns while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
· Apprehending violators of state, federal, or immigration laws by utilizing various forms of complex technology that include surveillance, detection, situation awareness systems, and/or communications equipment.
The above experience will be applied in connection with the following: Make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; deal effectively with people in a courteous manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions; or develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.
There are no education substitutions for the GL-9 or GS-11 grade-level Border Patrol Agent opportunities.

Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.
Residency: You must have had primary U.S. residency (including protectorates as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
Age Restriction: In accordance with Public Law 100-238, this position is covered under law enforcement retirement provisions. Candidates must be referred for selection to the Border Patrol Agent position before reaching their 40th birthday in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Directive 251-03. The age restriction may not apply if you are currently serving or have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement (non-military) position covered by Title 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) or Title 5 U.S.C. 8412(d).
Veterans' Preference: You may also be eligible for an excepted service Veterans' Recruitment Appointment (VRA). The age restriction does not apply if you are Veterans' Preference eligible.
Formal Training: After you are hired, you will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six (6) months of intensive instruction in immigration and nationality laws, law enforcement, and USBP-specific operations, driver training, physical techniques, firearms, and other courses. Border Patrol work requires the ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English. Border Patrol Agents will be provided training to become proficient in the Spanish language at the Academy.

LATERAL POLICE OFFICER PAY RATES:
* Less than 1 year experience starts out at $35.87 per hour

JOB SUMMARY
The Vehicle Patrol Security Guard is responsible for conducting mobile patrols of client properties to deter criminal activity, ensure site safety, and enforce company and client policies. Operating a marked security vehicle, the patrol officer monitors multiple locations throughout a shift, checking for signs of unauthorized entry, suspicious activity, or safety hazards. This role requires strong observation and communication skills, the ability to respond quickly to incidents, and a commitment to maintaining a visible security presence. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform thorough security inspections across multiple locations to identify and report unsafe conditions, safety violations, hazards, and unauthorized individuals.
Continuously monitor assigned properties to detect suspicious activity, unauthorized vehicles, trespassers, or loiterers, while maintaining a visible and professional security presence to deter potential threats.
Identify and report maintenance concerns, such as inadequate lighting, malfunctioning equipment, and other potential risks to health, safety, or property.
Prepare clear and accurate daily activity logs and incident reports detailing property damage, theft, unauthorized access, or other irregularities.
Secure and preserve the scene in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security incidents; set up barriers and signage as needed and provide clear direction and information to affected individuals.

Definition Under general supervision performs a variety of law enforcement tasks associated with patrol, traffic control, public assistance, investigation of criminal activity/crime scenes, apprehension of offenders, and aid in the prosecution of cases in court. This job class is a driving position, and treated as FLSA non-exempt.
Essential Functions: (Essential functions, may vary among positions, but may include the following tasks, knowledge, abilities, skills, and other characteristics. Examples of Tasks
1. Patrols the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC), including off-road areas, in a radio-equipped vehicle to preserve law and order by discovering/preventing the commission of crimes and enforcing State and Tribal laws and ordinances. Talks to Community members while on routine patrol to answer their questions and to demonstrate interest in them and their Community.
2. Responds to calls and complaints involving automobile accidents, robberies, assaults, fights, domestic disturbances, animal problems, and other criminal activities and civil complaints in order to secure the crime scene, identify witnesses, conduct preliminary investigations, and generally re-establish law and order at the scene. Deals with upset and angry people; attempts to calm them, explain procedures and get their cooperation. Determines whether there is probable cause for arrest at domestic disturbance. Charges and books arrested person; completes the necessary paperwork and procedures.
3. Secures and investigates crimes scene to ensure that the collection, preservation and handling of physical evidence and property meets established professional and legal standards. Interviews victims, suspects, witnesses to obtain and verify information pertinent to the investigation and resolution of a variety of criminal incidents.
4. Prepares reports, complaints, affidavits and other related technical legal documents regarding the progress, findings, and results of the investigative process to document the facts of an incident and facilitate the apprehension, prosecution and conviction of the perpetrator. Preserves and documents crime scene by processing the scene for fingerprints and taking fingerprints and taking still photographs, videotaping or sketching the crime scene.
5. Enforces traffic laws and ordinances by checking vehicle speed; issues citations when violations are observed. Runs license/registration check on the driver on a stopped vehicle to determine if the motorist has outstanding charges/warrants.
6. Testifies in court regarding the facts of the case as known first-hand, evidence collected, notes, and actions taken. Presents a good appearance and credible image while appearing in court or at hearings. Appears in court to present evidence and sworn testimony on behalf of the SRPMIC.
7. Conducts self in a manner which maintains integrity; remains free from involvement in unlawful or inappropriate activities. Attends classes, workshops, and conferences on police procedures to updates and improve skills.
8. Adheres to all training, policies, procedures, chain of custody, rules of evidence and laws. Maintains strict confidence and security of all data, financial accounts, information, intelligence, metrics, audio, video, computer analytics and meta data, police reports, supplements and associated case files, physical evidence, photographs, statistics and any other materials that are confidential and sensitive to all cases, investigations, personnel records and the operations or property of the SRPD and SRPMIC.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or GED. Must be able to obtain Arizona Police Officer Standard and Training (AZ Post) certification.
* Applicants that are not AZ Post certified Police Officers must pass a physical agility assessment and written assessment to be considered for hire with the SRPMIC Police Department. Failure to pass either of the components will be considered an automatic disqualifier.
* The physical agility assessment must be completed within the designated timeframe established by SRPMIC Police Department.
* The written assessment must be passed with a score of 70% or better.
Laterals - To be considered a lateral you must currently be AZ Post certified. The written and physical agility tests will be waived for current AZ POST certified Officers.
Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position, will be considered.
Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.
Special Requirements
Special Requirements-- Must be able to pass an Arizona Post (Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training) background investigation. Must be able to meet P.O.S.T. Drug standards.

Additional Information For Lateral Police Officers:
* Lateral Police Officers are eligible for transfer to open specialty assignments upon successful completion of SRPD's Field Training Officer (FTO) Program for new officers. Specialty assignments include however are not limited to in the Traffic Enforcement Bureau, Criminal Investigations Division (Detectives), Special Operations Unit, Crisis Negotiator Team, Ranger Unit, Gang Unit, K9 and several other assignments. Minimum requirements for each specialty must be met by each officer for application to a specialty unit and the officer must still participate in the associated selection process.

A Police Officer performs general duty police work or specialized police work in the protection of life and property. In carrying out the responsibilities of an entry-level Arizona Peace Officer, a Mesa Police Department Police Officer: interacts with a culturally and socially diverse population; employs discretion in solving problems; maintains public order; prevents crime; enforces laws and ordinances; conducts investigations; makes arrests; issues summonses/citations and warnings; assists the public; and may perform administrative support tasks. This class is responsible for performing related duties as required.
Work normally consists of routine patrol, preliminary investigations, and traffic control duties in a designated area on an assigned shift. The employee's primary responsibility is to respond to public safety calls for service. Incumbents may work on an assignment, which necessitates specialized abilities and knowledge usually attained through experience as a uniformed officer. Police Officers may be assigned to: assist in the training and evaluation of Police Officer - Recruits; perform traffic control and enforcement on a police motorcycle or bicycle; handle high-risk tactical operations or hostage situations; handle hazardous devices; work with specially trained K-9 police dogs; conduct crime scene investigations for the detection of latent impressions and other physical evidence; work in the Criminal Investigations Division to perform detailed follow-up investigations and prepare cases for prosecuting; perform specialized investigations in the area of organized crime and maintain complex criminal intelligence files; and conduct aerial surveillance on assignment as a helicopter observer/pilot. Work assignments are made by a Police Sergeant or other superior. Work methods are checked through personal inspections, review of reports, and discussions. A Police Officer - Lateral is an experienced Arizona peace officer who is not required to attend the Mesa Police Academy and is assigned to a Field Training Officer upon hire. A Police Officer - Lateral must successfully complete the Field Training Officer program. The length of training will be dependent on an incumbent's performance as determined by the police training staff. This class is FLSA nonexempt.
A Police Officer - Lateral Out-of-State is an experienced peace officer who is hired at the Police Officer Recruit starting salary while studying for, and taking, the waiver exams for Arizona certification. Upon successful completion of the waiver exams, the position will be criteria-based promoted to the position of Police Officer - Lateral. Lateral hires are not required to attend the Mesa Police Department Academy. Upon promotion, Lateral Officers are assigned to field training officers, and must successfully complete the program.

CLP holders must successfully complete the City's Entry Level Driver (ELD) training program, including the HME portion, the Third-Party Examiner (TPE) administered skills (driving) test, and obtain an Arizona Class A CDL with HME within 150 days of assignment. This assignment is subject to annual queries of the FMCSA Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse as outlined in Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) 49 CFR Part 382.701.
Substance Abuse Testing. Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this classification, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy and procedures.
