BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven ” individual to join as a ASIC Application Engineer - Automotive at our Indiana Technical Center (ITC) in Noblesville and Kokomo, Indiana.

In this role, and under direct supervision of the ASIC Application, Layout, and Support Supervisor, the ASIC Application Engineer will be responsible for development of next generation automotive ASICs for Power Electronics and Gas/Diesel electronic control modules in BorgWarner.

Job Duties:

  • Ability to work with customers to understand their high level requirements and design solutions
  • Responsible for understanding the technical requirements and forecasts realistic customer requirements
  • Support business case development
  • Contribute to the development of the overall ASIC architecture
  • Support of the IC Design, Test, and Product teams during the course of development
  • Electrical and thermal analysis of system proposed to support circuit design
  • Development of datasheets, application notes, Functional Safety documentation
  • Responsible for evaluation of defined ASICs
  • Conduct product/application technical training
  • Provide support for application usage and attend design reviews
  • Support system returns and debug to root cause
  • Propose IC change requests and support cost reduction initiatives
  • Mentor less experienced team members

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in electronics industry, automotive and integrated circuits experience preferred
  • Proven track record of documenting technical and safety requirements
  • Expert in electronic system design including conception, block diagrams, schematic capture, PCB layout, build and debugging
  • Experience working with systems that include some of the following: linear and switching voltage regulators, high/low side power switches, digital drivers, amplifiers, ADCs, SPI, CAN, microprocessors, thermal considerations, EMC considerations
  • Experience directing and understanding systems during return debug, root cause determination, failure analysis, and recommending fixes
  • Understanding of analog, digital, and mixed-signal design fundamentals
  • Provide hands-on, expert-level technical assistance to customer development and software teams
  • Must have strong technical documentation and verbal communication skills
  • Candidates must possess excellent organizational skills, good English oral and written communications skills, and a high level of interpersonal skills.

This position will report to: David Rice

Position Requirements: Perform duties to operate and monitor multiple operating stations including loading, deburring, de-magnetizing, wash/dry, part leveling, gauging and out pack. Exercise judgment to power-up equipment, perform set-ups and changeover tooling, within the limitations of standard methods and procedures.

Work from process control plans, manuals, tables, and instructions:

* Power-up equipment at main panel view and multiple power stations.
* Start up, check and reset multiple operation stations by clearing faults and making adjustments as necessary.
* Inspect parts for ID, flatness, rust, stains and spots.
* Place inspected parts in oiler, label and pack for shipping.
* Change over tooling, rollers and catch spindles for part changes. Change part number at main panel view and at each process control station.
* Remove stuck parts, clear faults, remove and replace shims and adjust rollers as necessary.
* Use panel view screens to troubleshoot equipment.
* Monitor and adjust wash tank temperature. Adjust valves as necessary.
* Maintain proper concentration of rust inhibitor in water.
* Adjust gap width at the gauge station as necessary.
* Adjust deburring heads as necessary.
* Make part number labels.

Use forklift, ID plug gauging, manual drop gauging, panel view screens, dial indicator, master stacks, conductivity meter and assorted hand tools.Familiarity with metric measurements is essential for this position.

Due to the labor grade of this position it does not fall into the shift preference/balancing. Dependent of business needs and requirements.

Degree Requirements:

High School diploma or GED, Associates Degree preferred.

5000 Hire Bonus - Technicians

Initial requirements for the position includes the ability to use gauges and measuring devices, statistical charting, and inspection/packing as needed. Manual dexterity and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds are key elements to the position.

Must demonstrate basic working knowledge of the principles of pneumatic, hydraulic, vacuum, and mechanical systems. Must demonstrate basic working knowledge of photo-eyes, proximity sensors, and LVDTs. Must be able to conduct routine preventive and minor corrective maintenance at regular intervals on machinery to ensure continuous operation.

Candidate must demonstrate strong mechanical, electrical, and process troubleshooting aptitude to resolve machine and process problems as well as to detect possible breakdown conditions or process failures before actual equipment/process failures occur.

Must setup dies and process machinery, make adjustments to machinery using basic hand tools, and repair or replace worn or broken parts when and where necessary. Perform changeovers, calibrate ATMs, re-teach servo operated automation, adjust hydraulic/pneumatic pressures, and adjust mini oilers.

Continuously training new employees on troubleshooting, fill in as team lead for vacations, cover critical machines during breaks and lunches as directed, stage and participate in changeovers, and work with engineering to provide continuous improvement ideas and solutions. Initial requirements for the position include the ability to use gauges and measuring devices, statistical charting, and inspection/packing as needed. Manual dexterity and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds are key elements to the position. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing customer quality issues.
  • Defines and implements production part qualification requirements as a function of their thorough understanding of the customer quality requirements
  • Supports operations team to understand Customer requirements
  • Collects data and lead cross-functioning team activities to reduce scrap and outgoing inspection rejects.
  • Responsible for managing customer audits, scheduling, leading, follow up, and closure on all audit actions.
  • First point of contact for customer compliance, product quality, and process quality issues - expected to partner with Manufacturing, various Engineering teams, and Purchasing, Supply Chain, Sales, and Operations management.
  • Specific responsibilities include meeting/exceeding all goals and objectives for:
    • Customer Quality Scorecards
    • Customer QMS & technical audits and action plan completion
    • Manage customer notifications related to change points
    • Customer reported defects - effectively manage 8Ds and meet all cycle-time metrics
    • Effectively interface with Customer to notify material purges & problems
    • Drive problem-solving (8D/5Why) on all negatively impactful quality escapes to Customer

Exercise judgment to power-up equipment, perform set-ups and changeover tooling, within the limitations of standard methods and procedures. Work from process control plans, manuals, tables, and instructions: Power-up equipment at main panel view and multiple power stations. Start up, check and reset multiple operation stations by clearing faults and making adjustments as necessary. Inspect parts for ID, flatness, rust, stains and spots. Place inspected parts in oiler, label and pack for shipping. Change over tooling, rollers and catch spindles for part changes. Change part number at main panel view and at each process control station. Remove stuck parts, clear faults, remove and replace shims and adjust rollers as necessary. Use panel view screens to troubleshoot equipment. Monitor and adjust wash tank temperature. Adjust valves as necessary. Maintain proper concentration of rust inhibitor in water. Adjust gap width at the gauge station as necessary. Adjust deburring heads as necessary. Make part number labels.
