Job purpose This is a year-round intern position for an Engineering Student in the Drivetrain & Battery Systems business unit. The candidate will be responsible for assisting with program audits, management system maintenance, 8D problem solving, scheduling, and reporting on results. Key responsibilities The intern will support the Management System Representative on the following: Activities: Program Audits: Assist with quality swim lane deliverables defined by the DBS APQP process. Assist with ASPICE process and work product audit checklist development and maintenance. Support and complete APSICE process and W.P. audits Create and manage risk tracking plans across multiple projects to ensure progress and launch is protected. Management System Maintenance: Assist in maintaining and updating controlled documents in the PTC/DBS QMS. Participation and assistance in auditing processes within the PTC/DBS QMS SharePoint site(s) maintenance and improvements 8D Problem Solving: Assist in structured problem-solving process (8D) / BW Global 8D Application. Assist with monitoring and managing the BW Global 8D Application. Report global results quarterly. Teamwork: Support upcoming quality workshop planning process and execution. Support monitoring and controlling of monthly quality managers meeting with focus on top regional priorities. Other duties as assigned by the manager. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Build high-fidelity VR/MR environments with accurate CAD/math integration and realistic occupant positioning * Create dynamic scenes and interaction scripts to represent priority use cases; optimize scene performance and fidelity * Develop and maintain workflows in VRED and Unreal Engine (asset ingestion, materials, lighting, scene variants, review modes) * Integrate and configure HMDs and tracking systems; ensure usability, comfort, safety, and data capture quality * Maintain version control and traceability of immersive assets/scenes aligned to program requirements * Acquire and utilize a working knowledge of immersive hardware including (HMD goggles, Hand tracking gloves, USP, and other relevant bucks). * Base level understanding with prototyping tools like Figma and Protopie. * Utilize Human Modeling Tools (e.g., NX Human, Process Simulate, RAMSIS) to conduct HF assessments * Evaluate reach, visibility, and accessibility in VR; recommend iterative design improvements for screen placement and user interface * Prototype and evaluate screen interactions; design and execute eye-tracking studies with clear reporting of insights * Plan and lead immersive reviews for audiences ranging from engineering teams to executive leadership, tailoring content for strategic decision-making * Facilitate immersive reviews (plan, schedule, moderate), capturing findings that inform HF scorecards and design decisions * Partner with Global Design Studio to meet rising VR demand; monitor throughput and reduce bottlenecks in review delivery * Collaborate with Human Factors Program Engineers, Studio Engineers, Release Engineers, Sculpting, Global Studio, Technology Operations and IT to align needs with potential solutions * Validate solutions by hosting demo/testing activities * Engage with external hardware and software vendors * Ensure production readiness plan will meet stakeholder's needs * Clearly communicate successes, lessons learned, and actionable insights * Stay current on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in immersive and human factors domains * Develop expertise for competitive automotive executions in area of assignment * Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong prioritization skills REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Engineering, Computer Science, User Experience or related * 5+ years of professional experience in VR/MR development * Proficiency with TeamCenter / TcVIS / NX * Proficiency with Human Modeling Software (NX Human, Process Simulate, and/or RAMSIS) * High level of analytical problem-solving skills and working through ambiguity * Ability to handle complex assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability * Demonstrated ability to 'lead up' and influence cross-functionally * Proven ability to show strong written and verbal communication skills by presenting ideas and concepts for buy-in to large groups and leadership teams * Demonstrated experience in planning and running immersive reviews with all levels of leadership-from engineering groups to executive/top-level management PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * 7+ years of professional experience in VR/MR development * Master's degree or relevant advanced coursework * Experience applying HMI, Human Factors, Cognitive Design, or Ergonomics * Knowledge of the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) * Experience working in a lab environment; familiarity with test instrumentation and part mock-up * Rapid prototyping, including paper prototypes, software simulations, and/or hardware simulations * Experience in one or more immersive software tools: VRED, DeltaGen, Unreal Engine, Omniverse, IC.IDO, StarCCM+VR, Vis Mockup, Metapost * Hands-on experience with HMDs (setup, calibration, comfort optimization, tracking integration) * Demonstrated ability to create virtual environments and immersive workflows end-to-end * Proficiency in VRED and Unreal Engine (UE) for scene building, visualization, and review facilitation * Programming ability (e.g., Python, C++, UE Blueprints) for tool automation, data processing, and workflow integration * Passionate and knowledgeable about emerging technologies and opportunities to apply them to HF and design reviews About GM Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.
