This position will perform the manufacturing engineering function to help drive new product introduction and continuous improvement. Develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications, safety requirements and quality standards. Recommends and implements improvements to processes, methods and controls and product design. Ensure safe working practices are designed into all processes. Interacts with all levels of the organization as a team to produce and be accountable for desired results Key Responsibilities * This position is responsible for the support of manufacturing operations with respect to process development, improvement, testing, safety, quality, and cost. * Coordinates with Product Line Managers, vendors, customers, and Product Development engineering to ensure customer satisfaction and adherence to BorgWarner World Class manufacturing standards. * Develops effective automated and manual systems for machine tending, material handling, and assembly operations. * Develops & enhances manufacturing operations including thermal and turbo assembly, tig, plasma, EB, & laser welding, balancing, fluid transfer systems, servo pressing operations, as well as verification systems including in-process and post-process gauging methods/systems. * Generates RFQ specifications as required to source new equipment and custom tools. * Specifies and executes machine purchases including verification of machine quality, performance and effect on process. * Procures cost estimates and proposals to support planned growth, vetting suppliers for quality, capability, and reliability. * Reviews and calculates labor, material, and other production costs along with reviewing schedules and future production requirements to assist management in decision making. * Analyzes and plans workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency while adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies. * Coordinates equipment maintenance and repair services while ensuring that manufacturer's procedures and instructions are followed to keep production equipment operational. * Supports launch activities and attain key metrics (ie: OEE, scrap) at the plant. * Works as part of cross functional group for product design reviews, new program launches, & continuous improvement & cost improvement activities * Generate with cross functional teams' documents such as: Process Flows, FMEA's, Control Plans and Work Instructions. * Communicate with global support teams for lessons learned, & best practices. * Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and improved efficiency. * Develops, implements, and documents effective cost reductions on time * Performs data analysis to measure process performance, troubleshooting, and identification of improvement opportunities. * Utilizes project management tools such as flow charting, mapping, PFMEA, and timelines to achieve optimal solutions while collaborating with other Manufacturing Engineers assigned to the operations. * Advances themselves technologically and applies such knowledge to best advise the organization, staying current on industry trends for equipment, tooling, gaging, testing and integration systems. * Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. * Facilitates the change process at the technical level and maintains project status reports for scheduling. * Keep work area in orderly condition with respect to proper materials, tools, equipment, and personal belongings. (Includes cleaning of equipment, floors, tables, etc.) * Interacts effectively with all levels of the organization, frequently participating on, or leading cross functional teams. * Adheres to an appropriate and effective set of core values and beliefs and acts in line with those values. * Perform other duties as requested or assigned. Qualifications * This position requires a degree in an Engineering discipline. A BSME, BSEE, or BSE in Mechatronics is preferred. * An affinity for mechanical and electromechanical engineering & problem solving. * The position requires at least 5 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience with semi-automated / automated assembly lines. * Experience in the automotive industry preferred. * Experience with high-speed balancing of turbochargers is a plus. * Experience with automated & semi-automated assembly equipment is required * Cognex Vision system programming experience is required. * DC electric torque systems experience is a required. * Understanding of the APQP process is required. * Understanding of lean manufacturing principles is required. * Experience with quality and lean processes & tools (PPAP, statistical analysis, 8D, 5S). * Experience with automated, and semi-automated, TIG, Plasma, Laser, and/or EB Welding is required. * Working knowledge of BW-PCS is plus. * Working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC programming is required. * Working knowledge of Minitab (Statistical Analysis) is a plus. * Experience with Servo Press equipment is a plus. * Experience with robotic assembly equipment is a plus. * Knowledge of turbochargers is a plus. * Knowledge of SAP system is a plus. * DFMEA, 3P, Design for Value, Design for Six Sigma type skills is a plus. * Minimum 2 years of experience managing engineering projects within deadlines. * CAD platform experience (Solid Works, AutoCAD, Creo, Pro-E, Inventor…) * Proficiency with Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required. * Knowledge of turbochargers is a plus. * Attendance on the job is essential. * Must be able to work in a team environment. * Must be able to follow instructions, safety rules and regulations. * A strong desire to learn, grow, and solve problems for the improvement of our production system and those who work in it. * Physical & environmental requirements: Standing, walking, talking, hearing, and using hands/fingers to handle or feel are required. * May need to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. * May be exposed to moderate heat, light dust, fumes, and occasional adverse weather conditions. * Adequate hearing protection required for noise levels above 85 decibels.
