Key Responsibilities Design and configure camera, lens, filter, and lighting systems to support robust and repeatable imaging for automated inspection. Perform illumination analysis using advanced lighting strategies (backlights, dome lights, ring lights, structured light, etc.) to improve feature contrast and reduce imaging artifacts. Evaluate and select machine vision cameras and sensors (CMOS, CCD) based on application requirements such as resolution, sensitivity, and frame rate. Develop mechanical designs-including mounts, brackets, and enclosures-ensuring imaging hardware is stable and reliable in active industrial environments. Produce engineering documentation, layouts, and schematics using SolidWorks or comparable CAD tools. Collaborate closely with vision engineers, controls/automation personnel, and plant operations teams to ensure seamless system integration. Oversee contractors and vendors responsible for fabricating and installing imaging hardware solutions. Troubleshoot and optimize imaging systems by addressing lighting inconsistencies, focus issues, vibration, or sensor configuration problems. Lead field installation efforts, support commissioning activities, and fine-tune imaging and lighting performance during deployment. Establish hardware standards, best practices, and documentation for scalable and repeatable systems. Develop preventive maintenance procedures for imaging hardware and partner with plant teams to ensure consistent upkeep. Implement automated monitoring tools for camera and lighting performance, setting thresholds and alerts for early detection of degradation. Stay current with evolving imaging technologies, optical components, and illumination methodologies to enhance system capability over time. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Computer Vision, or related discipline; or 8+ years of relevant hands-on hardware engineering experience. Practical expertise with machine vision cameras, optics, filters, and industrial lighting solutions. Knowledge of illumination techniques for challenging surfaces (reflective, textured, curved, low contrast). Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools for mechanical design and documentation. Experience designing mechanical fixtures, mounts, or housings for imaging hardware in existing production environments. Track record of deploying and tuning camera and lighting systems in industrial or manufacturing settings. Strong understanding of optics, imaging theory, and sensor properties. Ability to collaborate with software and machine learning engineers to align imaging hardware with algorithmic requirements. Experience troubleshooting imaging systems in the field. Proven ability to coordinate external partners for fabrication and installation work. Background in machining, fabrication, or custom hardware integration. Familiarity with commercial machine vision software platforms. Understanding of image quality metrics and measurement system analysis. Experience with edge devices or embedded systems for real-time imaging. Project management experience related to scoping and delivering hardware deployments.     Responsibilities Noblis MSD's mission is to support the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWCPD) and their missions' to enable research, development, test and evaluation, acquisition, engineering, systems integration, in-service and fleet engineering with cybersecurity, comprehensive logistics, and life-cycle savings. We are looking to hire an Electrical Hardware Engineer to provide support to various ship programs for the US Navy. This position is for DDG51 Machinery Control Systems (MCS) Land Based Engineering Site (LBES) Electrical and Computer Engineer for the LBES Integration (LBESi) team. The main function of the candidate will be to provide lifecycle support of fielded and future LBESi equipment at DDG-51 LBES needed to configure, monitor, and test DDG51 MCS Software. This includes managing all onsite installations, repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance of LBESi equipment in an industrial environment. This is an **onsite** position with limited possibilities for remote work. Responsibilities will include: 1. Lifecycle support of LBES configuration and Test Tools which includes, but is not limited to: a. Provide service and customer support for equipment including but not limited to PLCs, VME, PXI, microcontrollers, network switches, and software applications. b. Observing and testing machinery equipment operation in order to diagnose malfunctions. c. Troubleshoot technical problems, identify possible solutions, and implement recommended mitigations in a timely manner. d. Analyzing test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems. e. Solving complex problems with clear analytical thought, taking into account multiple factors and tradeoffs. f. Develop test procedures to exercise requirements of current and future systems. g. Communicating with subject matter experts as needed. 2. Support the design, development, and implementation of new requirements and/or test tools including but not limited to: a. Participating in Requirements Development and Design Reviews of next generation Test Tools. b. Rapid development of prototype Test Tools to facilitate design decisions. c. Modification of existing configuration, simulators, and hardware to support new MCS software testing requirements. d. Provide design support for integration of equipment in an industrial/shipboard environment. 3. Lead and manage all LBESi test activities including software and hardware verification and validation. 4. Provide timely feedback to Team Leads, Program Managers, Lead System Engineer (LSE), and Supervisor of equipment status and mitigation plans. 5. Identify deficiencies and improvements for LBES equipment utilized for plant monitoring/configuration and MCS testing. Required Qualifications + Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Technology degree with 3+ years of relevant work experience; or Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent engineering degree with 1+ years of relevant work experience; or equivalent work experience of 9 years. + Active government DoD Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain one. US Citizenship is required.
