Boston Children's Museum company history timeline

1913

After four years of planning, The Children's Museum officially opened on August 1, 1913, at the Pinebank Mansion located along Jamaica Pond in Olmsted Park in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood.

1919

In 1919, the Children's Museum opened a much larger branch museum in the Barnard Memorial Building on Warrenton Street.

1926

The Barnard branch closed in 1926.

1936

The Children's Museum opened at its new location on November 18, 1936.

1972

In 1972 the museum was accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

1986

In 1986, Kenneth Brecher became the director of the museum.

2013

In 2013, Boston Children's Museum was one of ten recipients of the National Medal for Museum and Library Service.
