The labs of Dr. Yuan Yuan and Dr. Donglai Wei in the Department of Computer Science at Boston College invite applications for Postdoctoral Research Fellows to join a highly interdisciplinary team at the intersection of artificial intelligence, health, and neuroscience.
This position focuses on developing next-generation multimodal foundation models and agentic AI systems that can reason across visual, textual, and biomedical data modalities. While one major application area is biomedical and neuroscience imaging, the research will emphasize core AI challenges in representation learning, generative modeling, and agentic intelligence. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to both fundamental AI research and high-impact scientific applications.

* Develop and implement novel AI models and learning algorithms for multimodal and generative modeling.

Prof. Catherine Hoar's research group in the Department of Engineering at Boston College is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to support interdisciplinary projects in the areas of wastewater surveillance, sustainable wastewater treatment, and the fate of emerging contaminants in wastewater and the environment. As part of these projects, the postdoctoral fellow will design and conduct experiments applying culture-based microbiological methods as well as techniques in molecular biology and analytical chemistry.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
(75%) Co-develop, collaboratively lead and participate in research projects that advance scientific knowledge and solve relevant societal and industrial problems. Participation in these projects will include supervising/mentoring postdoctoral researchers, graduate/ undergraduate students, scientific programming, data analysis, manuscript preparation, meeting with collaborators, etc.
(10%) Secure sufficient and pertinent research funding to supplement finances by preparing research grant applications, delivering grant milestones, and delivering reports and presentations.
(10%) Represent the university in conferences, seminars, and other public events, as well as in media outlets. Perform service for the university and the research community volunteering in different types of committees.
(5%) Other assignments as deemed necessary.
Financial Measures
Research scientists are expected to progressively obtain extramural research funding to fund their research. Salary support is contingent to availability of grant funding.
Supervision
Formally none, but they can supervise postdocs and graduate students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

About the Opportunity This job seeks a postdoc to work on one or more projects related to the development and assessment of wearable robotics. Possible projects topics include: * Developing machine-learning based exoskeleton controllers to work across tasks
* Designing and validating new robotic lower-limb prostheses
* Exploring other high-risk high-reward research areas related to device design, control, and evaluation
The ideal candidate will lead their own project, and also collaborate with and support 1-2 PhD students on their projects. The ideal candidate will also be interested in learning to write grants, and develop their ideas further towards academic independence.
Qualifications
PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, or similar.
