Are you interested in working with underserved populations? Boston Health Care for Homeless Program is looking for a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to provide comprehensive, high-quality primary and episodic care at our nationally recognized respite care facility. The Barbara McInnis House (BMH) is a 103-bed respite for adults experiencing homelessness who are too ill for shelter but do not need hospital level of care. BMH is staffed by nursing 24/7 and weekday and weekend providers. It is a collaborative practice where medical, behavioral health, and case management staff work to meet the various needs of patients during their stay.
Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive, high-quality primary and episodic medical care at the Barbara McInnis House; work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in caring for patients
Elicit an appropriate history, perform physical examinations, order diagnostic studies, interpret results and initiate therapy in accordance with the Guidelines for Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program
Refer patients as appropriate to medical specialists, hospital admission, recuperative care and detox facilities providing appropriate information for continuity of care
Participate in collaborative relationships with BHCHP physicians according to the regulations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; provide education to patients on health promotion and disease treatment and prevention
Maintain adequate, up-to-date medical records completed in a timely manner according to the guidelines of BHCHP, employing standard forms such as problem lists, medication lists, etc.
Maintain active DPH, DEA, and professional license, hospital privileges, managed care credentialing and CPR training
Qualifications:
Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Registered or eligible to be registered with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency
At least one year of direct NP/PA experience required
Experience in working with underserved populations, mentally ill, homeless and/or persons with substance use disorders preferred
Life support training certification (e.g. CPR, BLS, ACLS) from a course that includes a hands-on, in-person component
Bilingual proficiency preferred
Compensation and Benefits:

The compensation increases based on years of experience and ranges from $105,600 - $143,616 annually.

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hired for this role will partner with and perform clinical duties under the general supervision of the Division Chief of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology. The candidate will be responsible for providing outpatient clinical care in support of the memory disorders practice. Commonly encountered diagnoses include Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, mild cognitive impairment, cognitive impairment secondary to mood or anxiety disorders, and subjective cognitive impairment in the setting of otherwise healthy aging. While the position will be based within the Department of Neurology, Boston Medical Center is implementing a multidisciplinary Memory Disorders Clinic in partnership with the Geriatrics Section in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry. The Department of Neurology at Boston Medical Center is a full-service clinical and academic program that provides advanced treatment for patients with a broad spectrum of diseases and disorders of the brain, nervous system, peripheral nerves, spinal cord, and related muscle and blood vessels. Our team includes highly experienced physicians and nurse practitioners who subspecialize in all major areas of neurology. Provides direct care, counseling and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative and/or procedure setting.

Formulate a management plan for orthopedic problems within scope of practice. Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate. Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising orthopedic surgeon or other health care professionals
Order, collect, and perform appropriate laboratory or diagnostic procedures, and studies including but not limited to blood and tissue specimens. Ordering or performing diagnostic studies such as but not limited to EMG, electrocardiogram, compartment pressure measurements, and diagnostics including special x-rays, CT, MRI, and bone scans etc.
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to joint and bursa aspirations, closed reduction of fractures and dislocations, injections of joints, tendons, trigger points and bursa, as well as bracing, and cast and splint applications.
Presents and discusses the findings of the initial evaluation with the Attending Physician to determine the treatment plan. Documents the treatment plan and writes appropriate orders and referrals.
Oversees the entire clinical experience to assure coordination and consolidation of patient care plans and execution of those plans to tie the service together. Facilitates communication with other departments to ensure the delivery of excellent, cost effective, and efficient patient care.
Under the countersignature of the attending physician, is responsible for producing preoperative and postoperative orders, as authorized by applicable law and department protocol.
Writes orders on patients admitted to the hospital including medication, labs, diagnostic and therapeutic tests, and nursing activities. May be authorized to write appropriate prescription orders, including those for narcotics, stimulants, and depressant drugs, investigational medications and pre and postoperative orders as necessary.

Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive, high-quality primary and episodic medical care at the Barbara McInnis House; work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in caring for patients

Compensation Range:
$104,000.00- $151,000.00
This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness. Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. Are you interested in working with underserved populations? Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program is looking for a Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant who will provide comprehensive, high-quality primary, episodic and/or recuperative care at our primary care clinic and respite care facility. It is a collaborative practice where medical, behavioral health, and case management staff work to meet the various needs of patients during their stay.
Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive, high quality primary or episodic care at various clinical sites staffed by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program; work as part of multi-disciplinary team in caring for patients
May work at shelter-based clinic, hospital-based clinic, respite facility or at one of of primary care clinics
Elicit an appropriate history, perform physical examinations, order diagnostic studies, interpret results and initiate therapy in accordance with the Guidelines for Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program
Refer patients as appropriate to medical specialists, hospital admission, recuperative care and detox facilities, providing appropriate information for continuity of care; provide education to patients on health promotion and disease treatment and prevention
Participate in collaborative relationship with BHCHP physician according to the Regulations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Maintain adequate, up-to-date medical records, completed in a timely manner, according to the guidelines of BHCHP, employing standard forms such as problem lists, medication lists, etc.
Maintain active DPH, DEA, and professional license, hospital privileges, managed care credentialing and CPR training.
Qualifications:
Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Registered or eligible to be registered with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency
At least one year of NP/PA experience required
Experience in working with underserved populations, mentally ill, homeless and/or persons with substance use disorders preferred
Life support training certification (e.g. CPR, BLS, ACLS) from a course that includes a hands-on, in-person component
Bilingual proficiency preferred
Compensation:
The compensation is $77.00 per hour.
