1985

1985 June 26th, Boston MedFlight transports its first patient, a 14 year old boy injured in an explosion.

Boston MedFlight was formed as a non profit air transport service by a consortium of hospitals in 1985.

1991

1991 Instrument Flight Rule (IFR) capability is added to enhance aviation safety.

1992

1992- Second aircraft added to fleet and stationed at Plymouth, Massachusetts airport to expand service to southeastern Massachusetts, the Cape and the Islands.

1995

1995 A Dauphin helicopter is purchased to replace one BK 117 to improve specialty mission capabilities.

1995- North aircraft moved from South Boston to Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford.

1998

1998- Ground critical care transport service developed in partnership with Armstrong Ambulance

1999

1999- Fixed wing service developed in partnership with Eastern Air Charter

2002

2002 Boston MedFlight expands availability by increasing the second rotor-wing aircraft to 24 hours of operation.

2003

2003- Independent licensure for ground critical care transport obtained and third helicopter added to fleet

2004

2004- Second ground critical care transport vehicle added to Plymouth Base to work in conjunction with the helicopter

2005

2005 Boston MedFlight celebrates 20 years of service.

2006

2006- Night vision goggle (NVG) capability in all helicopters

2008

2008- State of the art medical simulation center begins at Bedford Base

2009

2009 S76 C++ purchased to replace the Dauphin and Boston MedFlight transports 40,000th patient

2010

2010 Above & Beyond - Boston MedFlight celebrates 25 years of excellence in critical care transport and safety.

2011

2011 Boston MedFlight establishes a third base of operation at Lawrence Municipal Airport.

2013

2013 Boston MedFlight purchases EC145 aircraft to replace a BK117.

2015

2015 Boston MedFlight begins using private GPS instrument approach procedures to land at consortium hospital helipads during inclement weather and their 60,000th patient is transported.

2016

2016 Boston MedFlight’s bid to purchase the Hangar 12A site on the civilian side of Hanscom Field is accepted by MassPort.

2017

2017 Boston MedFlight completes the certification process to begin operating as an independent air carrier under Part 135 of the federal aviation regulations.

2018

2018 Boston MedFlight purchases the first of multiple Airbus H145 aircraft and opens an additional base of operations at Mansfield Airport.

2020

2020 Boston MedFlight celebrates 35 years of critical care transport service
