Schedule: 32 Hours, Evenings, 3p-11:30p, Every Other Weekend, Part-Time, Benefit Eligible Position Summary: Performs routine clinical laboratory analyses. Recognizes problems, identifies basic causes, and makes corrections by using present strategies. Correlates data based on knowledge of technical and instrumental conditions affective test results. Performs Quality Control (QC) procedures within predetermined parameters. Responsibilities: Proficiently functions as a technologist in the following areas as deemed competent: Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Coagulation. Ensures QC is within appropriate limits for each test prior to reporting patient results. Confirms abnormal results prior to releasing and bring any “rare and improbable” test results to the attention of a Section Head or Lead. Processes specimens and logs requisitions as needed. • Reviews daily specimen reports as appropriate. Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies. Troubleshoots problems (client, instrument, computer) as needed. • Performs maintenance on instrumentation as needed. Records QC and maintains QC records on all assays performed. Requirements: Education: Associate's degree in Medical Technology; OR Associate's degree in chemical, physical, or biological science; OR education and training equivalent to an Associate's degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology. Experience: 1 Year of experience in a clinical laboratory preferred Certification/Licensure: ASCP, NCA, HEW, or equivalent preferred. Hardware/Software: Must be familiar with all phases of the operation of the automated instrumentation utilized for routine analysis. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Detail oriented and organizational skills. Works with considerable independence to perform routine and complex laboratory tests in all assigned departments of the clinical laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results. Major Responsibilities: Follows established procedures to perform all lab tests (including all levels of complexity as defined by CLIA) to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Assesses acceptability of specimens for analysis and maintains integrity of the specimens throughout the entire testing process. Performs set up on all laboratory equipment, instruments and apparatus required for specific laboratory testing. Performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance to ensure continued functioning of equipment. Documents all maintenance procedures performed in a timely and accurate manner. Operates all laboratory equipment per standard operating procedures to ensure accurate patient test results. Performs basic troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex instrumentation in assigned laboratory areas. Performs calibration procedures on instrumentation per departmental procedures in an accurate and timely manner. Adheres to the established quality control policies and procedures in order to guarantee the reliability of data. Informs the appropriate supervisor or designee of unusual or unexpected test results after verification and accessing validity of the original test results. Recognizes critical and /or life-threatening results and notifies the appropriate clinical personnel per hospital policy. Assists with the resolution of procedural problems encountered in the daily workload; notifies the supervisor of unusual or recurring problems. Appropriately documents all actions taken. Maintains all records and documentation needed to comply with JCAHO, CAP, AABB, Medicare, Medicaid, and HealthAlliance laboratory regulations. Specimen Preparation & Distribution: (a) Evaluates the specimen for sample integrity, any pretreatment and prepares solutions and reagents for use.
