Job Description
Currently hiring for both 36 and 24 Hour Night Float Pool RNs. The RegisteredNurse is accountable for planning, organizing, directing, delivering and coordinating patient care to attain and maintain maximum function, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established policies & procedures. Coordinates care among patient/family, medicine, nursing, ancillary, and other team personnel. Acts as patient advocate and maintains current knowledge and standards of professional nursing practice. May function as a first-line manager in patient care service during an assigned shift.

Seeking an experienced RN for the Faustman Immunology Lab located at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Charlestown. The lab conducts innovative Phase II clinical trial focused on the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes. We are testing the potential of BCG, our study drug, to reverse Type I Diabetes in both adults and children (8 years and greater). The Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) in collaboration with the physician, is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of clinical research. The CRN has to have expert skills in:
-conduct and documentation of FDA oversight clinical trials - attention to details and documentation practices
-extremely good IV skills including children 8 years and older - applied daily, 3 children/day
-excellent attendance record since children and families fly in from all over the US and must be met with nurse and meet FDA visit guidelines for timing of visits.
Additional skills required include some knowledge of Type I Diabetes. Strong interpersonal, organizational, collaborative, and excellent communication skills across all age ranges are required. Commitment to continued learning and excellent interactions with team of about 8 members - physicians, clinical research assistants, research assistants, etc. Experience in pediatrics preferred.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates study enrollment, protocol treatment, and completion of study requirements for patients participating in clinical trials.
Works collaboratively and functions as an effective member of the research care team.
Punctual and reliable the RN works with other members to ensure full coverage of patients and flights into Boston.
Prior mastery of IV insertion daily in 8-20-year-old children; excellent blood drawing skills.
Continued learning of good practices in human clinical trials and daily audit and documentation requirements.
Provides protocol education to patients and families; adapts interactions based on age-specific needs of the patient.
Supports research activity within the Faustman Immunology Lab.
Conducts human research protocols in a carefully monitored controlled, yet dynamic environment to achieve quality outcomes for date research participant safety to support the lab research goals.
Works collaboratively with study coordinators in maintaining study regulatory binders.
Collects and prepares required specimens for analysis and monitors test results, as appropriate.
Documents in StudyTrax as appropriate and communicates observations and findings to protocol investigator.
Participates in weekly research team meeting and ongoing collaboration with the study team to serve a s a resource person for study coordinators.
Monitors the environment of care with attention to patient safety and assures compliance with regulatory agency standards.
Responsible for accurate and complete record keeping for both research and nursing-related data for all study protocols.
Participates in internal audits in collaboration with study coordinators in all active protocols.
Assessment of the injection response with documentation (electronic and paper).
Performs site injections assessment both in person and with Zoom.
Provides Clinical Lab Test results to subjects.
Performs Mixed Meal Tolerance Testing (MMTT) on the pediatric population and assists the MD in performing Glucagon Stimulation Testing on the Adult Subjects.
Qualifications
BSN preferred.
Minimum five years of RN experience with both Adult and Pediatric (8 years and older) IV and blood draws required. 3-5 years of years of IV experience required.
Current MA RN license.
Maintains BLS certification.
Clinical Research and Diabetes experience preferred.

The mission of the UMMMC Transfer Center is to coordinate safe, timely, and appropriate care by connecting providers and linking resources to the patient within and outside of UMMMC. The primary role of the Clinical Transfer Coordinator is to communicate with referring providers and connect them with the most appropriate receiving UMMHC provider based on patient's specific medical need. The Clinical Transfer Coordinator's role is to triage accurately and advocate for safe and timely care. The Clinical Transfer Coordinator strives to facilitate the following services:
• Centralized intake for all transfers, including bed placement recommendations
• Expedited transfer and more timely care for critically ill or injured patients
• Dependable triage services for the pediatric and adult patients in our community.
• Timely provider to provider consultative services and hand-offs to discuss patient care needs.
• Management of bedside emergency situations and prioritization of real-time care concerns
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Utilize the nursing process to triage patients and advocate for safe, timely and appropriate care in the most appropriate setting.
2. Uses critical thinking, strategic prioritizing, and critical thinking to coordinate the care of patients who have an acute change in their condition using telecommunication tools to bring clinical experts quickly to their bedside.

Ellison 14 ICU patient populations are adult complex surgical patients including burns along with acutely ill medical patients (i.e. both SICU and MICU-type patients). Ellison 14 ICU has a 'closed ICU' model. All patients on the unit are cared for by the same team. Our APPs are the primary ICU care providers, supported by admitting surgical teams and consultants. Our multispecialty care team model, in-line with other ICUs at MGB, is based on responding clinicians (APPs and residents) supervised by 24/7 in-house attending ICU staff physicians and supported by critical care fellows. The job includes, but is not limited to critical care interventions, intensive care monitoring, diagnosing and prescribing treatments, therapeutics, and medications, coordinating referrals and discharging patients from the ICU. We emphasize and expect responsible, collaborative decision-making from our APPs, within their full scope of supervised practice. We encourage procedural excellence. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team, they would be responsible for establishing, implementing, and evaluating the ICU course of treatment and the coordination and communication of the treatment plan. Primary Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice: Participates in daily huddles and shares information with the team that is vital to enhance the patient office experience, delivery and coordination of care and incorporates the patient as an active team member.
* Provides independent, direct, and indirect nursing care, performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic studies, evaluating results and prescribing treatment as appropriate.
* Follows patients appropriately, within Advanced Practice Role as delineated within the state of Massachusetts and MGH.

RN ALS Clinical Research
Under the general supervision of the Associate Site Director/Nurse Manager, the ALS Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for specific aspects of protocols and policies for research studies within the scope of the nursing license in for the Massachusetts. The research nurse collaborates closely with research coordinators and investigators and will be responsible for Identifying and recruiting eligible patients, collecting, compiling, and potentially tabulating and analyzing data.
The RN will also coordinate related patient care activities in the inpatient and outpatient settings using the nursing process, deliver professional nursing care and evaluates patients' responses to study protocols. Providing consultation to primary physicians, nurses and research coordinators regarding protocol implementation and may participate in research publications. In this role you will present study findings to interested groups both inside and outside of the hospital by coordinating and implementing the research study according to the study protocol, provide data form development and perform required nursing procedures, including blood draws, IV infusions, and collection, preparation, and shipping of samples.
The RN will collaborate with the principal investigator (s) on an ongoing basis regarding progress of the study and the continuation or termination of study subjects. The RN will also work with physicians, nurses, research coordinators, and patients in the selection of and participation by appropriate patients.
Obtains all vital approvals and informed consent forms; screens and enrolls patients into the studies. Assesses patient participation continuously in light of ethical considerations. Acts as liaison between patient and other members of the team regarding patient care activities relating to the research protocol. With assistance from research coordinators, responsible for IRB submissions for protocols. May require travel to the research study subject's home for study visits.
The ALS Clinical Research Nurse will also assist in the ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic to provide competent, compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of the nursing process and a primary nursing model. The Bridge Clinic Substance Use Disorder per diem RegisteredNurse position is part of the Massachusetts General Hospital Program for Substance Use and Addiction Services (PSAS), hospital-wide program to improve access to evidence-based substance use disorder (SUD) care.
This position will provide care in the HOPE Clinic, a transitional clinic that works to engage and stabilize high risk patients before connecting them to long-term care in the community. This clinic serves pre- and post-partum women as well as the pediatric needs of the children.
The RegisteredNurse is responsible for assuring competent, compassionate, individualized, nursing care for patients with SUD. This role collaborates all members of the care team to ensure that patient care is coordinated, comprehensive, and that care transitions are seamless. This is a part-time per diem position, with primary hours from Monday-Friday 8:00AM-6:00PM and 8:30AM-1PM on Saturdays & Sundays.
At least 2 years' experience in an obstetrical or pediatric setting.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide competent, compassionate, evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process and interdisciplinary teamwork, and collaboration.
* Actively manage patient flow, including rooming and triaging
* Triage and help identify level of care and intervention needed in cases of substance intoxication or withdrawal
* Expedite appropriate care and treatment of the patient utilizing assessment, critical reasoning and clinical judgment,
* Integrate knowledge of each patient's history and unique circumstances
* Document nursing assessment, interventions, plan and outcome in the patient record in a timely manner
* Assess, triage, provide nursing consultation, and perform follow-up and surveillance of patient status and outcomes, utilizing a variety of telecommunications technologies

2. Work with the pharmacy and the outpatient team to obtain medication orders, prescriptions, refills, and communication as needed
* Complete toxicology screening for patients
* Assess and medically manage withdrawal from opioids appropriate to the level of care provided, or refer for a higher level of care if indicated, using and appropriately interpreting standardized screening and assessment tools and standard withdrawal assessment scales
* Provide outpatient pharmacotherapy for addiction, including opioid antagonist or agonist therapy such as naltrexone, buprenorphine and methadone.
* Administer injectable SUD pharmacotherapy as indicated
* Consult with members of the treatment team and other treatment professionals to devise an individualized plan for optimal psychosocial treatment for individual patients.
* Work as part of a team involved in intensive case management of individuals with substance use disorders
3. Collaborate with all members of the health care team to ensure coordination of care.
* Review and follow-up with patients, and members of the health care team, to ensure that patients are current with all necessary tests, screenings and follow-up care
* Attend weekly all team rounds
* Track and follow-up with care team and patient on all critical referrals and test results.

The HOPE Clinic is a collaborative program of the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Psychiatry and Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Mass General for Children. Our goal is to give patients and their families extra support through this special period in their lives. We know that each person's path is different, so we tailor our medical and social services to meet each individual where they are in their substance use and recovery.
Patients are seen at our outpatient clinic at Mass General. The HOPE Clinic includes clinicians from a variety of fields who work together to care for patients. Our team includes clinicians trained in:

* Family medicine
* Pediatrics
* Psychiatry during pregnancy and postpartum (after birth)
* Social work
* Recovery coaching
* Resource specialist
The clinic provides complete care for pregnant women and their families during this exciting and challenging time. Through these services, we help pregnant women and new parents maximize their ability to navigate pregnancy, early parenting and substance use recovery with success.
During Pregnancy
The HOPE Clinic provides complete care for pregnant women, including:
* Prenatal care with high risk obstetrics and family medicine
* Addiction specialists
* Mental health care
* Counseling and peer support
* Social services
* Primary care linkage
* We offer medication treatment for substance use disorders (such as buprenorphine or naltrexone). We also work with local methadone treatment programs.
When a patient is admitted at Mass General for labor, our team coordinates their substance use treatment during childbirth. We work with the inpatient obstetrics team to support our patients through childbirth and their hospital stay at Mass General.
After Delivery
After delivery, we welcome patients and their newborns back to the HOPE Clinic. We continue to provide care for the family for the next two years.
During this period, we provide services for mother (whether or not they are parenting) and baby as well help partner access supports.
For infants, we offer:
* Monitoring of ongoing neonatal withdrawal symptoms
* Pediatric primary care, affiliated with the Mass General for Children Pediatric -Group Practice

Portfolio of Recovery
We also work with patients during their time with us at the HOPE Clinic to create a "portfolio of recovery." It outlines the patient's treatment goals and identifies the patient's strengths, support system and plan for the safety of them and their family. The portfolio can then be presented with the help of the inpatient social work team to social services agencies, including the Department of Children and Families (DCF). This portfolio serves as a 'Plan of Safe Care' which is required for all infants affected by substance use or withdrawal.

The mission of the UMMMC Transfer Center is to coordinate safe, timely, and appropriate care by connecting providers and linking resources to the patient within and outside of UMMMC. The primary role of the Clinical Transfer Coordinator is to communicate with referring providers and connect them with the most appropriate receiving UMMHC provider based on patient's specific medical need. The Clinical Transfer Coordinator's role is to triage accurately and advocate for safe and timely care. The Clinical Transfer Coordinator strives to facilitate the following services:
• Centralized intake for all transfers, including bed placement recommendations
• Expedited transfer and more timely care for critically ill or injured patients
• Dependable triage services for the pediatric and adult patients in our community.
• Timely provider to provider consultative services and hand-offs to discuss patient care needs.
• Management of bedside emergency situations and prioritization of real-time care concerns
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Utilize the nursing process to triage patients and advocate for safe, timely and appropriate care in the most appropriate setting.
2. Uses critical thinking, strategic prioritizing, and critical thinking to coordinate the care of patients who have an acute change in their condition using telecommunication tools to bring clinical experts quickly to their bedside.
3. Facilitate communications and activities between the patient care units, providers and other hospital departments as required. Anticipates potential problem situations and intervenes as appropriate.
4. Collects data and provides virtual nursing care to achieve optimal outcomes and to influence practice patterns.
5. Utilizes resources and performs at a level conducive to support the delivery of safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered care by acute and critical care teams.
