• Minimum B.A. or B.S. in Environmental Science, Biology, Botany, Ecology, Natural Resources, or another related field (candidates with the equivalent in knowledge and experience may also be considered)
• Minimum 2 years of experience successfully conducting construction monitoring on linear projects
• Experience conducting surveys for species status plants, identifying plants of California and the San Joaquin Valley, and identifying and mapping vegetation communities, habitats, and land cover types
• Central Valley species experience, including one or more of the following: hairy Orcutt grass, succulent owl’s clover, Hoover’s spurge, palmate-bracted bird’s beak, San Joaquin woolythreads, Colusa grass, San Joaquin Valley Orcutt grass, Greene’s tuctoria
• Map reading and field survey techniques
• Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently in the field or part of a team
• Experience writing field reports and monitoring logs
• Detail-oriented, resourceful, and strong time management skills
• Experience writing field reports and monitoring logs
• Familiarity with federal and State laws and regulations specific to sensitive biological resources

Cardno is seeking a Botanist II in our Santa Barbara, CA or Glendale, CA office. you will implement project work in the ecological consulting and restoration management fields requiring vegetation monitoring, wetland assessments, understanding of Midwest ecological systems both terrestrial and aquatic, characterization of vegetative communities, endangered species surveys, and a working knowledge of ecological restoration.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

+ Collect field data, data analysis, and report preparation.

+ Knowledge of or experience with wetland communities and delineation methodologies.

+ Knowledge of or experience with vegetation monitoring sampling methodologies.

+ Mentor junior staff and provide QA of reports prepared by others.

+ Process engagement and provide recommendations for process improvement.

+ Use of GPS to map wetland boundaries.

+ Aerial interpretation.

+ Soil Identification

**Qualifications**

Minimum Requirements:

+ Bachelor's degree or higher in botany, plant ecology, wetlands ecology, riparian ecology, conservation biology, or related science.

+ Minimum of 5 year of related experience.

+ Strong plant identification skills including wetland species.

+ Knowledge and facility with appropriate California botanical references.

+ Must have field botany skills and ability to conduct field work, at times for long hours or under strenuous circumstances.

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.

+ Strongly detail oriented, resourceful and able to work as part of a team and independently.

+ Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word & Excel.

+ Ability to travel to field sites and other Cardno office locations with some overnight travel capacity.

+ Valid Driver's License.

+ Ability to complete field safety requirements and follow Cardno's Zero Harm Safety Program.

+ Strong ecology/biology background.

+ Wetland delineation experience.
