Boulder Community Health company history timeline

1922

Since 1922, we’ve grown from a small-town hospital to a regional health care network with locations—from physician clinics to urgent care centers—across Boulder and Broomfield counties.

1926

The campus included the aging Boulder Community Hospital, which opened in 1926, and additional nearby properties.

1949

in February 1949, ten local doctors and a team of nurses, technicians, and support staff opened the doors of Boulder Medical Center on the corner of Broadway and Balsam Streets in Boulder.

1955

Starting in 1955, BCH raised funds to expand.

1962

The institution closed in 1962 when the number of residents had dwindled and could be accommodated at newer facilities in town.

1974

Capacity increased over the years, such that it grew to a 172-bed facility by 1974.

By 1974, BCH hosts 172 beds, has admitted 200,000 patients, and treats more than 14,000 Emergency Department (ED) patients annually.

1985

BCH began to expand to other locations beginning in 1985 and would go on to form a regional health system known as Boulder Community Health.

2014

On October 9, 2014, Boulder Community Health consolidated all of its emergency and trauma services and most inpatient including cancer, surgery, and orthopedic to Foothills Hospital in East Boulder due to its location being more central for Boulder County.

2015

In 2015 this is the entrance to Inpatient Rehabilitation and Behavioral Health.

The City of Boulder agreed to purchase the BCH campus in 2015.

2019

Additionally, BCH relocated all outpatient pediatric rehabilitation services to the Erie Medical Center in April of 2019.
