Bountiful City company history timeline

1847

Bountiful was settled on September 27, 1847

In September 1847 Sessions gathered his family into their wagon and herded 300 head of cattle into the South Davis Valley.

On the 27th day of September, 1847, Perrigrine Sessions, with his family, moved about nine miles north of the newly established Mormon settlement of Salt Lake City and camped.

1848

Here he constructed a dugout with skins for a roof and wintered, he and his family being the sole occupants of the place until the spring of 1848.

1850

The county was one of the first regions to be settled in both the territory and state of Utah, and was among the first to be organized as a county on October 5, 1850.

Fifty-three families had established farms in the area by 1850.

1854

The settlement was first called “Session’s Settlement,” and later “North Mill Creek Canyon,” which was shortened to “North Canyon.” In 1854, the first post office was established and was named “Stoker” in honor of the settlement’s Mormon bishop, John Stoker.

By 1890 the citizens of East Bountiful determined that they needed something stronger than precinct government to take care of their increasing population.

1892

The city of Bountiful was incorporated in 1892 with Joseph L Holbrook as mayor.

1895

In November 1895 the Woods Cross and West Bountiful areas voted to separate from Bountiful.

1900

By the 1900's, the reputation of West Bountiful had enticed several of the wealthier pioneers to build elegant homes in the area.

1907

In 1907 electric lights came to Bountiful through the efforts of its citizens.

He was born in Bountiful on November 6, 1913.

1916 Bountiful, a city of Davis co., Utah, on the Salt Lake and Ogden R., 9 miles N. of Salt Lake City.

1920

In the 1920's, George Mann returned home from a mission with one pound of Yellow Sweet Spanish Onion seed.

West Bountiful was incorporated as a town on January 28, 1949.

1990

The 1990 census recorded a population of 36,659, revealing that Bountiful had fallen to the position of the second largest city in Davis County.
