Purpose Primarily responsible for leading the structural engineering function of assigned business unit. In addition, will develop into the primary, nationally focused key advocate for the Structural Bridge market within Bowman. Responsibilities Leadership and Direction * Receive broad guidance from Division Manager relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance. * Provide oversight and direction of region or business unit including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables. * Working with the Division Manager and Business Development teams, aligns business development activities for the Structural Bridge market with Bowman's strategic business plan. Identifies potential clients, builds relationships, and identifies specific opportunities to propel growth in the respective market sector. * Recognizes and adapts to trends within the market sector, both positive and negative, and guides the Company accordingly. * Track regulatory and/or funding changes that could impact the respective market sector. At the Operational and Company Level * Coordinate with other departments and business units to meet project requirements. * Act as advisor to Region regarding projects, tasks, and operations. * Market the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships. * Maintains a thorough, commercial understanding of the respective market and aligns company services and delivery methods across the organization. * Tracks regulatory and/or funding changes impacting the respective market sector. * Oversees the implementation of revenue strategies, inclusive cross-selling and workshare for the Structural Bridget market across the firm. * Serves as a resource in resolving potential client issues. Do the Work * Hire, train, retain, and develop structural bridge staff. * Oversee all projects in the department to ensure that the work is executed on time and on budget and in accordance with the client's requirements and within company policies and procedures. * Provide work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff. * Serve as technical advisor by providing senior level input and evaluation on projects. * Develop and evaluate criteria for project plans. * Write proposals and price projects for review by management. * Approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases. * Verify specifications for use in engineering design and development. * Review status reports, recognize and address discrepancies. * Perform field investigations or inspections. * Serve as liaison with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects. * Enhance marketing of the firm's structural bridge capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients. * Keep current on engineering specifications, trends and developments to recommend changes in program or design methods. * Working with regional leadership, develops, nurtures, and strengthens external relationships within the sector. * Identifies how business units operationally manage the market sector to produce and secure profitable projects. * Establishes and/or aids in developing annual business goals, strategies and tactics. Formulates capture strategies for new work. * Identifies local projects and clients requiring specialized expertise. May assist local leadership in determining licensure and prequalification requirements in those jurisdictions. Helps assess, track and organize business opportunities to pursue in a region. * Organizes and attends frequent client / prospective client meetings to maintain and develop relationships and market share while ensuring client satisfaction. * Attends industry conferences, webinars, and networking events. Obtains firsthand insights into competitors' strategies, new projects, and market trends. Coordinates and leads debriefing meetings internally. Qualifications * Bachelor's or Masters' degree in engineering, or other relevant fields of study. * Fifteen or more (15+) years' experience in structural engineering to include project management, staff supervision and leadership, and client relationships. * Professional Engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) licenses required. * Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications and design software such as STAAD, Microstation, AutoCAD, MDX, LEAP etc. * Demonstrated experience in successfully managing the financial, marketing, human resources and operations aspects of an engineering department. * Demonstrated experience in pursuing and managing projects within a specific market sector, including project proposal development, planning, execution, and delivery. * Possesses thorough and extensive knowledge of the specific market sector being supported, including technical services and client procurement methods. * Demonstrated track record of creating new business opportunities. * Demonstrated history of leading and motivating high-performance site design teams. We are seeking a Staff Engineering Technician to join the Municipal Division team and be a part of our growing team located in Vernon Hills, IL. This is a non-exempt hourly position with overtime. The Staff Engineering Technician will report to the Division Director or Assistant Division Director. This position requires participation in a variety of technical engineering work involving both field and office support of engineering projects. This is a broad classification with individual positions assigned to specific functional areas; duties and assignments may overlap depending on the operational needs and staffing levels. Positions at this level receive routine instruction and assistance as new or unusual situations arise. It is preferred that the candidate have experience in Municipal work. As an Engineering Technician, you will utilize the company values in all phases of your work. You shall perform the full range of duties as assigned under general supervision and direction in a timely fashion, and show competency in the following areas: How you will make an impact: Proficient in office operating procedures and policies of the company. Have experience in the assigned tasks within your division. Prepares sketches and drawings. Provides support to professional engineering staff. Experience in Microstation/GEOPAK and/or AutoCAD and Civil 3D a plus. Must be able to collaborate with other team members and have good interpersonal and communication skills. Must have the knowledge of an engineering office, field work, required by your division, along with the physical ability to work outdoors under adverse conditions. Read engineering plans, interpret standard drawings and specifications, survey notes, maps and reports. Understand methods, practices, techniques and instruments used within your work. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Calculate grades and construction quantities. Engineering plan review. What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc Education: Must have a high school diploma or GED. Associates degree preferred. Experience: Must have valid Illinois Driver's License. Two to four years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience at a level comparable to an Engineering Technician Level II. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience in Microstation/GEOPAK and/or AutoCAD and Civil 3D a plus.
