TITLE: Substitute Youth Development Professional REPORTS TO: People Specialist DEPARTMENT: Youth & Family Services ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Support the planning and delivery of youth programs in areas such as education, technology, art, recreation, and games. Use restorative practices, conflict resolution, and problem-solving strategies to guide behavior. Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating integrity, respect, and dependability. Ensure youth safety through active supervision, clear expectations, and maintaining clean program spaces. Create an environment that encourages inclusivity, respect, and empowerment. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED required. Must be 21 years or older. Oversee the Prevention program within the Club by establishing weekly Prevention check-ins regarding youth served, progress notes collected, and shared with the Outreach Manager. Implement restorative practices to support positive youth behavior and repair harm. Foster safe and positive spaces for youth to feel a sense of belonging and build healthy relationships. Support effective volunteer engagement, management, and stewardship. CLUB PARTNERSHIPS Collaborate with schools, administrators, and local community agencies. Communicate frequently with teachers, building operators, principals, counselors, and family community resource coordinators. Visit schools quarterly to build/maintain relationships with school administrators and connect with Club youth in school. Maintain relationships with key partners such as Read NW and school principals that feed into the Club. Inform school partners regarding annual events that require youth to be signed out of school, such as Santa's Clothes. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Must be 18 years old or older. High school diploma or GED required. Pass a National Criminal, Social Security, Local Criminal, and National Sex Offender Registry background check. Washington State driver's license, clean driving record, and ability/willingness to operate a 10-12 passenger van (training will be provided). A combination of education and experience equivalent to a BA in Education or related field (flexibility of education attained or directly relatable work experience). 2+ years providing staff supervision and leadership. Experience in planning, implementing, and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of youth in a leadership role. Experience working with diverse populations and demonstrated ability for cultural responsiveness/competency. Knowledge and implementation of positive behavior strategies, restorative practices, and trauma-informed care. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics. Demonstrated organizational, staff supervision, and project management abilities. Evidence of collaboration with community partners and outside entities. Ability to set priorities and work independently in the absence of supervision. Work in a flexible and cooperative manner. Bethany is a not-for-profit corporation of 32 Lutheran member congregations from a variety of denominational expressions, whose faith and life is centered in Jesus Christ. The role of the Chaplain for Bethany of the Northwest is envisioned as a Rostered Pastor position with responsibility for Word and Sacrament Ministry among the residents, providing (or providing for through other spiritual care resources) the spiritual care of residents, clients and staff throughout the Bethany system. The Chaplain will provide spiritual support through the Bethany facilities and care for our hospice clients in their own homes.
