Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice Degree
Board certification as a NursePractitioner
Montana Licensure
DEA License if applicable to practice area
American Heart Association BLS within 60 days of hire
Preferred: Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification (required within 12 months of hire)
Preferred: Two years of inpatient or general surgery experience
Essential Job Functions:

Provides high-quality, efficient, and evidence-based patient care while following standard of care within the Acute Care Surgery and Trauma specialty scope of practice.
Performs comprehensive inpatient assessments, rounds independently or in collaboration with the surgeon, and adjusts care plans based on patient progress.
Orders and interprets diagnostic studies, writes orders, and prescribes medications within defined scope.
Completes admission histories and physicals, progress notes, discharge summaries, and consultative documentation.
Assists in the operating room as a first assist for emergency and elective surgical cases.
Provides coverage in the Surgery clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Responds to trauma activations in the Emergency Department and participates in patient evaluation and resuscitation.
Coordinates multidisciplinary care, including nursing, therapy, and case management teams, to ensure safe transitions of care.
Performs and assists with bedside procedures (wound care, drain management, line removal, chest tube placement and removal, staple/suture removal, etc.).
Participates in quality/performance improvement initiatives.
Maintains accountability for accurate documentation and timely coding of all patient encounters.

Schedule Requirements
This is a Casual Call position designed to support the Acute Care Surgery and Trauma Service during periods of PTO, FTE vacancies, and high-volume patient census.
Required to work a minimum of 4 shifts per quarter (16 annually)
Collectively responsible for covering a minimum of 3 weekends per month (36 annually) among the casual call team
Weekend assignments will be distributed collaboratively based on individual preference and availability
Shifts should be two consecutive days when possible to support continuity of patient care
Encouraged to assist during summer months and high PTO periods
This position does not include night or on-call coverage

Our medical team currently offers Family Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Podiatry, Orthopedics, and Oncology, with opportunity to add additional specialties based on future market needs. The brand-new building has beautiful office and clinic spaces, radiology, lab, an infusion center and an ASC, in addition to outreach space for current Great Falls physicians to offer care, mentorship and support.

Under clinical supervision of a physician and direct supervision of the Manager/Director, the Physician Assistant provides general medical care, treatment and health care services to patients within the scope of their licensure and expertise level of the supervising physician.
Essential Job Functions
* Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.
* Examines patients and performs comprehensive physical examination, compiles patient medical data including health history and results of physical examination.
* Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, laboratory, and other ancillary services as appropriate and differentiates between normal and abnormal information contained in the test results. (Patient Care, Testing Diagnostic Tests)
* Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care and managing infections within the scope of their licensure and the expertise level of the supervising physician. (Patient Care, Procedures, Midlevel Scope of Practice)
* Formulates diagnosis of medical problem, develops, implements and monitors patient care plans, records progress notes and assists in the provision of continuity of care; conferring with the supervising physician as necessary and/or appropriate. (Patient Care, Treatment plan, Patient Care Plan)
* Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens. (Education, Patient, Educates Patient)
* Refers patients to other health care providers and appropriate sources of care as necessary.
* Participates in on-call rotations and off hour rounding as it pertains to the specific department. (working condition)
* Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements; acquires knowledge and skills essential to incorporating into practice proven new evaluation/treatment modalities.
* Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality; participates in the continued program development and marketing of service line.
* Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
* Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
Minimum Qualifications
Education for Physician Assistants
* Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program
* Current National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) Board Certification/License as Physician Assistant
* Approved to practice as a physician assistant in Montana or Wyoming by Board of Medical Examiners
* Additional unit specific requirements are listed above
Education for NursePractitioners
* Graduate of an accredited nursepractitioner program
* Current Board Certification as a NursePractitioner
* Approved to practice as a NursePractitioner with a current Montana and/or Wyoming Board of Nursing License as an advance practice nurse
* Current Montana and/or Wyoming license as a Registered Nurse as appropriate to service area
