Our client a telecommunications and consumer electronics is looking for an Industrial Auto Tech to join their team in Elgin, IL. This is an initial contract opportunity with possibility of extension.
As their Industrial Automation Technician you will support our growing automation operations. This role combines responsibilities of a service technician, maintenance technician, and analysis technician. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with automation systems, a strong technical background, and the ability to troubleshoot and maintain complex equipment in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and repair computer-controlled systems and robotic devices in industrial and commercial settings.
Provide immediate response to equipment malfunctions and escalate unresolved issues to management and engineering teams.
Perform scheduled maintenance and diagnostics as outlined in TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) documentation.
Troubleshoot and diagnose automation control systems using schematics, diagrams, and manufacturer documentation.
Install, configure, and commission new robotic systems and production equipment, including hardware upgrades.
Execute automation programming tasks and support software adjustments in collaboration with engineering.
Record and analyze data related to root cause analysis, corrective actions, and maintenance activities.
Monitor and support process improvements and assist engineering teams with process changes.
Communicate effectively with production, quality, engineering, and management teams.
Support machine configuration, fixture setups, and adjustments for operators.
Ensure compliance with safety procedures, training, and EHS standards.
Utilize advanced technical knowledge to analyze and resolve complex hardware issues.
Required Qualifications:
Experience: 2-4 years in a related industrial automation or technician role.
Education: Associates Degree in Automation Technology, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. (Bachelors Degree preferred)
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of electronics, mechanics, computers, and automated systems.
Experience with automation software and control systems.
Familiarity with motion sensors, control components, pneumatic devices, and photosensors.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs unassisted and 50 lbs assisted.

Our client is seeking a skilled Instrumentation & Controls Technician to support the reliable operation of a Central Utilities and Waste Treatment Plant serving a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility located in North Chicago, IL. In this role, the Instrumentation Technician will maintain, calibrate, service, troubleshoot and repair measuring and test equipment (M&TE), process instrumentation, production equipment controls, analytical field equipment, and process control systems used in utilities and facilities areas. Will be required to work on a variety of electrical, electronic, mechanical, process control systems, and essential plant utilities: steam, nitrogen, water, and HVAC, and ensure compliant handling of wastewater and byproducts.
Key Responsibilities:
Test, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and modify instrumentation and control devices for steam, nitrogen, water, HVAC, and waste treatment systems.
Perform preventive maintenance on transmitters, sensors, analyzers, valves, controllers, and PLC/DCS systems.
Diagnose and correct issues in pneumatic, electronic, and digital control systems.
Support commissioning, startup, and upgrades of instrumentation and control systems.
Maintain accurate calibration and maintenance documentation in compliance with GMP and FDA requirements.
Collaborate with operations and engineering to ensure safe and reliable delivery of utilities and compliant wastewater processing.
Assist in maintaining and updating instrument loop diagrams, P&IDs, and control schematics.
Follow all site safety policies, including lockout and confined space entry procedures.
Education, Experience & Skill Requirements:
Minimum 3 years of experience in instrumentation and controls maintenance for industrial, utility, or manufacturing facilities.
Technical diploma, associate degree, or military training in Instrumentation, Electronics, Industrial Automation, or related field.
Proficiency in calibration of temperature, pressure, flow, level, analytical, and environmental monitoring instruments.
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
Experience troubleshooting PLC or DCS-based control systems.
Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or other regulated industries.
Valid driver's license is required.
Knowledge and ability to use basic power tools and ability to apply proper hand and measuring tools in an industrial setting.
Must have knowledge of a production environment including boilers, chillers, compressors, and processing instrumentation.
Must be skilled in troubleshooting various instrumentation utilizing schematics, tech manuals, and flowcharts.
Capability to work within and promote a team environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in industrial environments, including climbing ladders, working at heights, and wearing PPE.

Key Responsibilities:
Break-Fix: Must be able to work outside of normal business hours (i.e., shift work), to include nights and weekends, when needed.
Remote Hands: In-depth knowledge of data center equipment installation and basic testing methods and procedures (MOPs). Knowledge of operating principles of data center, wireline and IP transport environments. Ability to interpret and perform tasks outlined in MOPs, vendor documentation, technical specifications, network practices, engineering letters and job aids. Knowledge of telephony networks, optical and IP networks. Ability to identify all colors associated with telecommunications cable and equipment indicator lights. Interpret and follow detailed method of procedures (MOPs) and engineering documents / diagrams.
Cabling: Ability to work in overhead rack or grid for extended periods of time pulling long lengths of heavy cables. Handling, installation, and troubleshooting of Ethernet and fiber cables and connectors, including but not limited to CAT 5, CAT 6, structured cable, fan-outs, single mode, multi-mode, RJ45, and LC.
Optical Testing and Troubleshooting: Complete all activities associated with physically placing equipment identified in project specification documents including but not limited to, routing, lacing, labeling, terminating and local / remote testing and turn up of ethernet, switchboard, fiber, and power cables. Utilize optical power meter, stabilized light source, VFL, OTDR, and test equipment to test 10/100G circuits using BERT, RFC2544, EtherSAM (Y.1564), and iPerf (1G-10G). Analyze and resolve network issues associated with equipment installations / removals. Perform and assist card level troubleshooting and replacement procedures with assistance from control centers and/or back-office engineers.
Site Audits: Review project specifications to validate equipment placement, cable assignments and determine cable lengths then document results in proprietary databases. Provide timely and accurate feedback to audit / survey requests.
Racking and Stacking: Install, organize, and maintain hardware equipment in data center racks following standard operating procedures. The ability to use hand tools and power tools. Ability to learn and retain physical and mechanical installation specifications. Understanding of basic mechanical terms and tools.
Decommissioning: Safely remove and dispose of outdated or failed hardware following data destruction protocols.
Hardware Replacement: Replace faulty hardware components, including transport routers, servers, switches, and other network & IT equipment.
Power Management: Work with power feeds, including redundancy, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and manage hot/cold aisles effectively.
Documentation: Read and interpret cut-sheets for physical network installation, ensuring accurate port connections and cable management.
AC and DC Power Equipment: Maintain and troubleshoot AC and DC power equipment, ensuring reliable power distribution and connectivity.
