JOB SUMMARY:
The MedicalAssistant (MA) functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician/NP/PA/CMN and reports to the practice manager. The MA must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care, communicate effectively with others, maintain an inventory of examination/procedure room supplies, work with the healthcare team to assure smooth and efficient patient flow, and organize the office environment to assure patient safety.
Please note: This position is based in a Primary Care Physician's office and requires the ability to float to other practices within the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital Medical Group.
DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:
The BMH Physician Group practices provide medical services in various specialties and offices including pediatrics, ob/gyn, cardiology, orthopedics, internal medicine, family practice, ENT, urology and general surgery. The practices are staffed by physicians and other licensed providers who are supported by clinical staff (LPNs or medicalassistants) and clerical staff. Hours vary by practice.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
* High school graduate, medicalassistant training program, EMS training, or nursing assistant training strongly preferred.
Experience:
* Minimum two years within the last 5 years of experience in doctor's office setting preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
* MedicalAssistant Certification required within six months of hire.
* CPR certification required.

Essential Job Functions:
Ensure that patients are brought into an exam room in a timely manner so that when a Provider is ready to see the patient all intake duties have been completed as outlined in the clinical policies and protocols.

Documents care actions and patient responses in the electronic medical record,
Organizes and prioritizes care with minimal assistance.
Maintains patient education literature for distribution.
Specimen collection
Performs venipuncture following successful training
Performs capillary stick, collects urine specimens, performs testing for occult blood in stool. Handles all specimens using Standard Precautions, infection control and hazardous waste removal practices, may perform PT/INR finger stick.
Completes lab forms through Computerized Physician Order Entry
